300 Mag version of 6BR-AI (BRA)!

more eveidence on the demand for WSM brass is lurking or/and ADG is really good stuff.......has anybody tried the 7-300 SAM.....get the new 190 berger/a tip going at same speed at 215 gr 30 cal with better BC

edit...that would just be 7rsaum improved which has been done a lot, just different now with 7mm 190's having better BC than 200/215 30 cal....robin is doing it with 7ss at 2800 ish mv, believe the regular rsaum improved would be faster, to get to 2900+ to match 3oo wsm with 215's

Wish I had more to add, I have a lot of irons in the fire. I do have an M action on order with 3 bolt to be my test mule gun. I am trying to develop a few bigger cases for our 2k stuff, BR level accuracy, so its taking some time to really figure them out. I'll also do the 300 Saum imp for myself and shoot it in HG. Im doing a 300 saum imp/SAM soon for a local shooter here that will do a lot of testing in a short time Im sure. He's pretty good about posting data. @GlennK

I did shoot mine in HG this past weekend at Hawks Ridge 1000 yard. Won a relay and close in the other. I am trying different lots of bullets, thats where the accuracy is! It was shooting 24moa up from 100 yards to 1000. My son was shooting a WSM with the same bullets. His come up was 26moa. Groups were basically the same. He won a relay also. It appears to shoot slightly faster than a WSM with less powder (1.5g H4350)! Which equals more efficient! If you want easy, go WSM. If you like something unique with slight benefits over the long haul, go 300 Short Ackley Mag. And it looks sexy like an overgrown 6BRA (6BRAI)!

I got a reamer and dies being made. .215fb. Should be ok. Is rl23 viable on the accuracy end over h4350 or rl16?

The 190 A-tip could run under 2700fps and still, in theory, run with a 215 hybrid at 2850 fps. However, I should have named my boats IN THEORY; everything works in theory :)

Meet the 300 Short Ackley Magnum, made from the parent 300 RSAUM case using Norma brass. I made the body taper the same as my 6BR-AI and same 40 degree shoulder. I actually started this project several years ago when 300WSM Norma brass was in very short supply and impossible to find. But you could find 300RSAUM Norma brass easily and a lot cheaper. Norma WSM was going for about $2. a piece if you could find it. 300RSAUM Norma brass was $1.19 to $1.27. My thought was to get WSM velosity and have a more stable case than either. 40 degree shoulder basically stops brass flow. No donuts and no case trimming!
Below I added the reamer drawing of the “Short Ackley Magnum “. And no I did not name it after my name, SAM, it just came out that way. Also, for comparison a 300 RSAUM Print. The “SAM” powder capacity is right between the RSAUM and the WSM but duplicates (at least) WSM velosities. It hold about 2g less of H4350 then the WSM and about 2g more than the RSAUM. Any of the Short Mags pound you pretty hard, so I had R.A.D. (Recoil Aided Devise) added the winter. You still feel the recoil by more of a push, but it doesnt jar and hurt you as bad.

(Its late, I will write more this weekend if anyone is interested?) Samuel Hall
NORMA
NORMA 300 WSM brass is impossible to find is right on for 2020. If things don't change for 2021 will have to try this. Thanks for the post Sam.

Well it is you time, your money. If you enjoyed the process that is all that matters! If this is your hobby than job well done!

The other side of me though thinks this a huge waste of time and money outside of just doing it for the (blank of it)! If you billed yourself for you time you would be broke and have not much to show for it.

It is not as if you are fledgling Jewish resistance cell making brass lipstick tubes in rifle brass under ground hidden in commercial laundry services because no one will sell you rifle brass. Not the apocalypses plenty of other brass for sale.

So on the one hand it is impressive but on the other I fail to see what has been accomplished. P.S. I build my own trumpets even though I do not sell them. I am not above selling one I just enjoy the process too! I tell myself much the same I told you. LOL

Great Job!

SHall, Hope all is well. Any new news with load development at all. Anything to share? Thanks Kevin Lepine
I have a few barrels done in the caliber now in HG and LG and shot several hundred rounds at my 500 yard range and in 1000 yard competition. I have only shot H4350 because it is a well known good stable powder and perfect for the RSAUM-AI or WSM. And I have plenty of it. I am actually getiing the same and sometimes a touch more velosity than the WSM with 2-3 grains less powder. I have been shooting204-207g Vapor Trail bullets. Accuracy in on par with the WSM which I have shot for several years now. To be honest the WSM is the easy button to do the same job, I am not trying to say the AI is better. The AI is a tad more efficient, no doubt. Alex Wheeler thinks that will help with its performance over the course of a shooting season. If you enjoy wildcatting and something different, the AI is your round. Fireforming is easy like the 6BRAI (BRA). No false shoulders etc. I started the 300 RSAUM-AI, years ago whem you could not find Norma 300WSM brass. Looks like we are again at thet point in time. The RSAUM-AI may be the better option once again! Samuel Hall

I'll bet if Lapua made 300 WSM brass, or Peterson or ADG, then there wouldn't be any of these cool 30 cal wildcats. While the grain of powder difference between a 6BRA and a Dasher seems to help a little, it's unlikely there is any meaningful difference between a 300 WSM and a 300 SAUM AI. The tuner's ability will be the biggest factor.

I lucked into 200 Nosler 300 WSM cases the other day for $1.80 each. When I go through those I may have to switch to the RSAUM AI. I would just need a reamer and a go gauge.......
