30 BR as a varmint round?

I see the 30br as a purpose built point blank BR cartridge, that merely takes advantage of weak score rules.
It has even less purpose than a 6PPC.

Any change to make it what it isn't, would set you that much further behind what already works.
Yeah, I'm negative. But this is the same response anyone might expect if considering a 6XC for point blank group shooting...
It's just a ridiculous notion,-given what is already known to be better for purpose.

I don't know of a more efficient cartridge than the 30BR in terms of the amount of kinetic energy produces per grain of powder. I have 3 of them. 1:16, 1:17, & 1:18 twist. I have shot 150 SMKs in the 1:16 twist in the one time I played with that bullet. Shot a few 1" 300 yd groups that day. As soon as I find a proper blank I will make them for boys to deer hunt with. If you want to play with something outside the box, then more power to you is my feeling.

Yep its a great varmint round
My 1:13T has shot everything from 110 V-max to 185 Lapua HPBT into varmint hunting accuracy and some like the local 155 F-class projectile into near BR accuracy.

Now this is a bitsa of a rifle-- put together with leftover bits that mates and I had in our various sheds.

-Tikka 595 basic rifle started out as a 22/250
-minimal action work- really just polishing surfaces so action is smooth
-S/H/ Used F-class comp barrel with hundreds of rounds down it- cut down from 29 odd inches to about 26 inches and radically fluted to reduce weight
-bedded so recoil lug is fixed into stock and floated
-trigger is still about the 1 kg mark
-magazine fed
-16 power scope on it

best group so far 5 into .441 none of those loads over .6 with avg of groups being .51 at 100

125 TNT loads avg round the .73 mark with 3 different powders and 2 primers and 5 (or 6) aribitary seating depths tested so far- RL10-X loads are a lot smaller avg than that.

This is shot over conditions from bright sunshine, heap of mirrage but little wind to enough wind and rain that they were considering closing the range and everything in between

Due to my illness my hunting time is limited without assistance - but a mate of mine described his use of My 30BR with 125 tnt's as a great way to create "Red mist Paddock Pizza"
