30-28 nosler. Insane group.

That sound you heard on your third shot...the sound like rolling thunder? That was all the pigs in the county dropping dead simultaneously upon hearing the muzzle blast of your new LR shooter.

Check out these two groups a customer just sent me with his lightweight 30-28 nosler I built him. Rifle is under 10 lbs with optics. H1000 and a 215 berger at 3070 fps. Customer was having a case of dyslexia when he wrote the info on the first group. was actually .438 outside to outside according to the calipers, resulting in a .13" group for 4 shots. 2nd group was 3 shots that measured .154" @ 100 yds.

Well a couple buddies and I took a few rifles out this weekend and set the steel targets up at 952 yds. There was zero mirage and almost zero wind. I was really excited to shoot my 30-28 nosler due to the insane vertical it held at 400 yds, .04 moa. Here’s the results:
First shot on the steel plate hit the left side. I made a windage correction and shot 3 shots, waiting a minute or so between each shot. Ontarget software measured it at 1.508” or .151 moa. I shot another 3 shot group that had the first two in the same splotch on the steel. The third shot moved a couple inches to the right due to the wind. This rifle holds insane vertical especially since all my shooting is done off a bipod. 215 Berger at 3070 FPS w h1000, cci 250 and virgin ADG 28 nosler brass necked up to 30 cal.

Rifle has a:
Kelbly atlas action
Manners eh1 stock
Proof Research sendero contour 9.0 tw
Self timing 5 Port "Muscle" brake
Triggertech diamond trigger
Hawkins bdl bottom metal
Kahles K525i scope bedded into a set of NF 6 screw rings.

I’ll have some identical 30-28 noslers instock in 4-6 weeks. Simply run a 30 cal expander mandrel through the 28 nosler brass. Then load and shoot.
Ryan, what COAL are you running? What’s the max COAL your setup can handle?

Check out Grant Gillespie new tack driving 30-28 nosler. My standard test load shot a .905” / .216 moa 3 shot group at 400 yds. This rifle has the new folding XLR Element 3.0 chassis and Grant painted it himself. This one is the aluminum version. The magnesium version is even lighter. It folds, adjustable butt/cheek and LOP. This is a badass chassis for a hunting setup.
The rifle consists of:
Kelbly atlas action w a timed ignition/bolt
XLR Folding Element 3.0
Proof Research carbon barrel
Titanium self timing 5 port “Muscle” brake
3 round accurate mag
Triggertech Special
Nightforce 5.5-22 nxs bedded into a set of Nightforce rings.
Can’t wait to see the tags this rifle fills in the future.

Rifles are ready to ship in this setup w the magnesium chassis and weigh 8lbs 7oz without optics. Either this pattern or all black.

Here’s a 4 shot group at 580 yds with my personal 30-28 nosler. Group measured .945”/.155 moa. Group had .548”/.090 moa vertical. I did a ladder test earlier that day and loaded 4 up where the target said it should shoot. The proof carbon barrel is hammering. H1000 and 215 Berger at 3055 FPS. Can’t wait for my wife to fill some tags soon with it. Rifle is 10 lbs with optics. I have some instock ready to ship as well.

Have you played with N570 or 215Ms?

I haven't played with N570 yet in the 30-28. I probably won't try it soon seeing as the h1000 load is just stupid accurate. Possibly in a few months I will do some testing though once I get caught up and hunting season is over with. Im gonna try and test n565 and 230 bergers in my norma improved here in a week or two. The n570 load for my norma improved has a SD of like 7 for 20 shots. Very consistent velocity and accuracy. And a mild load with a 26" barrel and a 230 at 3035 fps.

The 215 is proven elk killer. The 195s are having problems. 30 cals by some expert kill better than the .284.
Double barrel life.
No A-tip for the 7mms yet.
230 and 250 a-tip .823 and .878 bc

Well I decided to test the 230 bergers and h1000 in my 30-28 nosler. Did a ladder test at 580 yds. Tried 83.2 gr out and it had a SD of 7 fps for 6 shots and average velocity of 2965 fps. Both groups at 580 yds had .5"/.08 moa vertical. One group measured .872"/.143 moa and the other measured 1.298"/.213 moa. Load development is done so I will throw my NF NX8 4-32 MIL-C reticle scope on it. Yes I have a different scope for load development. The Kahles 10-50 is my go to scope for load development. This rifle has also shot under an inch at 580 yds w 215 bergers and 1.5"@950 yds. What a hammer.

Rifles are instock ready to ship.

I chambered a 33-28 Nosler--I just ran a 33 Nosler reamer in deep. It has about 2 grains less case capacity than the 340 Wby. With RL-26 I am getting 3170 fps and a half inch group at 100 in initial testing with 225 Barnes TTSX. And the groups working up to it were nice as well.

The 28 Nosler case is a good size and shape, and RL-26 powder works amazing. I think it would in the 30-28.

Ive thought about trying some 26 in a few of my rifles. Ive heard that above 80 degrees it starts to get squirrely on velocity though.

Maybe. It's unlikely I'll see 80 degrees during elk season. Also, I found a wide node so I'll stay on the lower side. It is fast enough and shoots well enough it's worth some testing.
