28 nosler build updates

Well I took 3 new 28 noslers out today to test them at 600 yds before I shipped them off to customers. Each rifle I put 2 rounds into the dirt to foul the brand new virgin barrels before testing them for accuracy. All 3 rifles held 1.7" of vertical or less at 600 yds for their first groups ever. Same load in all of them. This is the same load I have tested all the previous builds with as well with similar results. I also had a customer send me a pic this evening of a .070" group at 100 with his 28 nosler w 195 bergers. The 28 nosler has been my most popular caliber for customers for the last 8 months. At the end of this month Ill have built close to 30 this year alone. link to my facebook page with all the pics and info on the builds,

Order UP!!!!
Ryan built mine and wowser... it's a shooter! I have other custom rifles and the build Ryan did is superb and out performs the others, hands down! I watched Ryan pound rocks out too one mile with a build that he did! His craftmanship is second to none and he has these 28 noslers dialed in (just like my other rifles from him)! I have shot further with his 28 nosler than ever before. "Go long" and "shooter ready/send it" has new meanings... it's a lazer! His rifles with the reamer he has for those new bergers, his attention to detail, and his skillsets make an awesome rifle. My 2015 elk flipped over when the freight train came in!!! The only thing that could compare is a .338... oh... have Ryan put on one of his brakes...say yes to shooting ALL DAY!!!! it's like a .243 at max!

It is perfect for it in my opinion. Its not near as long as the stw or rum while still offering similar performance. The brass is good quality, accuracy is phenomenal, along with a lazer beam for ballistics. It has very wide nodes for accuracy. Its pretty much pick the speed you want and shoot it. Cant ask for anything else in a hunting cartridge. Harvman also had a 10 shot group at 600 yds that was under 2" with his 28 I built for him. Pretty much the same load I tested these with. He went back out the following morning and shot a group in the low 1" range. Called and said its ready to kill an elk, lol. heres a link to my 5 port on a 28 nosler with Bob Sebolds 55 lb son shooting it http://www.piercisionrifles.com/pages.php?pageid=14

Ryan, what is the freebore on your reamer and out of the almost 30 you have done what is the consensus on twist rate for the 195. Great job on those rifles!

Just got this pic of a .052 center to center group from a customer with his 28 nosler I built him. Two groups in the .0s from two different 28 nosler customers in a week aint bad.

Rpierce,

What are your thoughts about 28 Nosler using 180 hybrids vs 195's with a hunting range of 1000 yards or less? Seems like the 195's would be optimum past 1K.

They would work. The only problem is my reamer is set specifically for the 195s so the 180s are way up in the neck. Honestly I don't see a reason to use the 180s considering the nosler pushes the 195 3100-3150 no problem and has dasher accuracy with the load I found.

Ryan Pierce's go to load is 88.6 gr RL 33 195 gr Berger and CCI 250. Says customers are shooting sub 2" 10 shot groups at 600 yards and low 1" 5 shot groups at 600 yards. Appears to be perfect powder for this volume of a 7 mm case.

What barrel length are you fellows shooting the 195's in? I have been shooting the 7MM, 30, 338 & 375 bullets in the .404 Jefferies brass for over 20 years and the 7 is my favorite. Never shot any 195 but many 180 & 182 Carts. at speeds you would not believe. My question is this, is the Nosler brass good enough to take the pounding I KNOW everyone is going to give the 28 Nosler?
The RWS was and still outstanding to extreme pressure, tell me about the Nosler.

Thanks
Bill Shehane 7, 30, .338 & .375 HV.

Bill, All the ones I have built so far have been 26". With RL33 we are getting 3050 with the 195 without hammering the brass. The 28 brass seems to handle pressure a little better than other Norma brass, but I am sure RWS will take a lot more.
