Capt.Friend of mine build a steel/LR shooter chambered in 30.06AI or big 6 as we call it. 30” barrel spitting 215s at 3k is nothing to laugh at. I shoot 215s @ 2650 out of my standard 25” 30.06 and that will make people sit up when that hunting rifle swings a steel plate around its bar at 800y. When I replace this barrel it will also be chambered in a 40deg, no one I know builds an Ackley to shoot at standard “30.06”/parent cartridge preasure, let it loose and let them run

It would be helpful if you could ask how much RL 26 he uses and the manufacturer of his cases.Wboggs, im not sure about the load but its with RL 26, i know Norma MRP and VV N560 also works a treat. I actually spoke to him earlier today and he mentioned he dropped the load down a little bit this weekend as he thinks its going to be rough on the brass
longbowwboggs....You can use 270 brass at 2.540 and cut back to fit the neck chamber,if A guy felt he needed it. My 6.5 gibbs I built up over 25 years ago used 270 brass.Had a longer neck over the original 6.b Gibbs using 30-06 brass.......

Its an excellent caliber, about 10% less capacity than 300 wsm. It separates itself from the pack with a good 4831 burn rate stick powder and 200-230 grain bullets. Out of a 24" 200s 2850+ and 230s 2650+ depending on throat. Mdt 30-06 mags can feed 3.6" and that is long enough for everything with the possible exception of the highest bc 230s. Only standard bolt face long action that beats it in my opinion is 280AI.I have a 30-06 ackley barrel that I bought from a fellar just got it on and worked up a few loads nothing serious yet. Wondering did anyone have anything to say good or bad regarding the caliber. I know it's not a big improvement over 30-06 but I bought it and dies worth the money.

I have AI cartridges and I like them. BUT there are numerous people on this website and others that should not be loading for them. No basic understanding of physics what so ever. When you give some of these people a easy comparison they still look at you like you have 2 heads with one eye each!I never worked with a .30-06 Improved because the ballistic discrepancies and non-pressure tested data varies greatly. At sane and safe pressures, there is likely an improvement over the standard .30-06, but it may not be sufficient to offset the trouble associated in dealing with one of the improved versions. Claims are made for greatly increased velocities, but it's impossible to tell if that's due to an efficient cartridge design that allows for a greater powder capacity or because the cartridge is simply loaded to a potentially dangerous pressure level.
The lack of pressure data also bothers me with some of these improved versions and it is impossible to get unless someone like Nosler (.30-06 ackley) publishes reloading data. I note there is never some hugh beyond reason velocity increase or great increase in efficiency of cartridge design.There are a number of Improved .30-06 designs and I doubt the Ackley version is much different ballistically than the others. I was interested in wildcat cartidges for many years and have worked with quite a few, but the new eventually wore off of all of them. All are gone and I don't miss any of them.
