3 Days Makes A Year

Made a "little" run from south Florida to Wyoming and the chance to get a shot. Jim, 5 Speed, directed me to this place a couple years ago so wife and I went back. Good move.


Now we set up and slept in the toy hauler right next to a bar. Nice bar too.

Silly me - get to the real business...


What else is there?

We shot and shot for three mornings. After a while wife Pam would get anxious for that bar. While out there those three days she did "take" over a hundred with her 17.


I did about 150 shots per session with the 22-250 AI 40X. Used 77 gr Bergers and was flat out silly deadly to about 500 yards. Handicapped with a broken laser the last day, it was no handicap. Couple shots with the mil dot reticle to figure out drops and hold-offs for wind and it was on.


At one place I called "slaughter hole" I had seven piled high as the darn things kept coming back to crawl on the bodies and sometimes eat from them. I did two "doubles" and just fair had fun.

No lack of targets. Clean up at the end of each day, sleep in the trailer, ride a little motorcycle, drink a few cold ones and back at 'em.

All I needed for the year. Hope to be back again.

NO.

Never saw another hunter out there. Did run into two groups of two coming into the hotel. Neither group were very friendly as if expecting a problem with me finding out their hunting place. One flat out lied and said publi ... opps, the other guy chimed in to correct using private land. Then they were off.

It's stuff like this that could be bothersome. Oh well. I did make contacts of private land I could pay to hunt and maybe some private I would be invited on. That ranch foreman had trouble with some hunters recently and shut things down. The days I could have hunted he was moving sheep. Got some neat pictures of sheep moved right in town and across the tracks.

Yea, some shooters make all the rest look bad since when they have no respect for others and think they can do anything when let on private properties to shoot.
Glad the trip was smooth both ways.

I like the simplicity of your outfit. Warm comfortable shelter, enough truck to haul it, jst enough stuf to make the shooting comfortable, one special person and good eats, comfort drinks. Well done sir

Link to more hunting pictures and the rest is truck and motorcycle rides we took after the hunt. Too hot out West so we returned to the Carolina mountains and back to south Florida. Actually cooler here.

Truck is a Ram Ecodiesel. Normally get 25-30 mpg unloaded. It is 4 x 4 with 50,000 miles on it now. Just showed 35.4 mpg on my return from the post office and a fuel stop here. Drive under 65 and it will hand calculate over 30 mpg. Spare fun tank in the bed and you don't have enough bladder control to run it out.
