21 days straight

One of the kids I mentored a few years ago shot this super nice buck yesterday at his folks farm about 3/4 of a mile from here, with the 7mm SAUM I built him... His younger brother Kevin also got one with a .284 Savage I built for him, but I don't have that photo yet.. I'll post it as soon as I have it..

Seems like the kids are putting us old folks to shame these days...
Pat your son on the back for me, for a well done job..

Preacher,
Thank you I will give him a atta boy from you. Beautiful rifle you built the young man and what a beauty he took with it, you both must be very proud.

Robert,
Thank you, yes he used my old smoke pole, came across the deer about 2:30 p.m called me on the radio and said he was on the sneak of his life and not to call for him, I was a couple miles up the canyon rounding up cattle, I got mine the day before so I let him go hunting while I did the shores, the wind was howling and it was about 19* out, he took his day pack off and left it by a fence and made his sneak, fired and the deer took off he pursued got off another and only had one quick load left, just before dark he called me on the radio very excited,....Dad I need some help!! I have my buck hit hard and maybe more then once but I am out of bullets and it's almost dark. I said settle down, take a breath and tell me exactly where your at, he told me and I knew exactly where he was and I could drive almost to it, he left his day pack behind so he was out of quick loads but he had a vial of powder with him so I told him to re load using a piece of his shirt sleeve and the jag off the end of the ramrod and start tracking, I will be there before dark to help, he called me back less then five minutes later and said I FOUND HIM, take your time :P So yes I am very proud of him, he stayed with it and used his head for the most part and incidentally he had three slugs in him the other two just didn't make the mark, I think a little buck fever may have been involved but you know the day my heart stops pounding when I am on the stalk of a nice white tail or elk then the excitement must be gone and I will quit hunting at that point, I guess the key is being able to control it once it is time to shoot ;)

Wayne congrats to your son. Very nice buck!

Always like preachers Thread's. Last years was a great thread. As this one has been too. I'm sure there will be even more to come.

Mark,
I was sad to see preacher's deer as the first post, Last year was a play by play until he got it and then it was a show and tell for all, in short one of the best threads of the whole year IMO I look forward every day to his tread and the new posts, starting to look like it will be another hit, thanks preacher, keep the thread alive guys, sometimes there's more to it than load recipe's and rifle builds and for sure this is way better then some of the arguing that's been going on, just a real relaxing and enjoyable thread. My dad is 78 years old and got his buck on the last day I think it was, I had to be at work,so he shot, dressed it and loaded it all by his self. I get a real kick seeing the older guys and the kids getting getting there game, I was lucky enough to be with my dad while he shot his elk and plan on taking at least a week and maybe two weeks to hunt with my dad and hopefully my two boys next year, I want them to experience hunting with him while they can and although dad can't do what he used to be able to do physically, mentally he is fit as a fiddle and has a lot of knowledge to share with them, after all memories is what it's all about isn't it?
Wayne.
