284 shehane/162 amax loads

I would like to try some 162 amax in my 284 shehane 29" Krieger and need a starting point. What level of es are obtainable with this combo?

I am not going to give specific powder charges but I had no trouble getting 3100+ fps with IMR7828SSC, a 31 inch 4-groove Krieger 1:9 twist, BR-2 primers and Lapua brass. I shoot a three shot group in the node during a ladder test at a little under 3100 fps with an ES of 5 and the two next to it were 9 and 10 fps respectively. Larger strings would be in the 9-15 fps ES which is normal for my guns with these and other bullets. Vertcal was also as good as I get with the 180 gr bullets. I didn't see any advantage to the 162 versus the 180's so I didn`t pursue the A-Max but it is an excellent bullet if you want to use it. Just shoot a ladder of three shot strings with 0.4 grain steps and you should find something It is worth sorting the A-Max by bearing surface length and overall length if you are going to shoot beyond 300 yards and you will probably need a slightly smaller sizing bushing because they are a bit smaller in diameter than the Bergers,
