28 Yukon

The rifle belongs to my best customer, with his blessing I'll Post a pic. As for your round count, that is an exceptional number of rounds through a barrel chambered in that cartridge. I build as many rifles chambered in 7mm Rem Mag as all the others combined, and can tell you that's not the norm for guild accuracy. That being said i believe The Yukon should be good for 1000~1200 rounds of "good" accuracy and reasonable cleaning, depending on how hard one pushes it. That is however an educated guess as none have been tested to failure. There are no free rides.

I don't run balls out. I run my 162s at 2960-2975 and 140s at 3300 thereabouts. I've been shooting this rifle since 2007

I've been waiting for accuracy to fall off so I can rebarrel to the practical. But I guess I'll build it on a savage action

Sounds a lot like a 7 Dakota with the throat for 180's. It's slightly longer than the dakota but only by .050". Without a reamer print I can't tell if thats all in the neck or the body of the case.

It is similar to dakota, however the Dakota i believe has approximately 85gr water capacity to overflow(according to Quick load). The Yukon has 97.5 gr.Which will primarily show advantage with heavier bullets (190 Matrix,195 Berger if /when we see it) .The 35° shoulder helps with capacity and brass growth. My goal is to offer performance between a 7Rm and 7RUM. I believe that the Yukon does just that. Is it the "perfect 7mm" ? Everyone has an opinion as to what thier idea of perfect is. Some are content with slower speeds in return for longer barrel life. Some push the 7 RUM to it's limits. Others need to be able to go to the store and buy thier ammo,Some have to make thier own. Thank you for your interest.

Similar only in name and parent case.Throat length, neck Diameter as well as length have been "optimized" . As has the leade angle.

As an update to this post. I recieved correct dies and forming can be done easily with one die.Neck turning is necessary. Annealing is reccomended.

Just completed a new build chambered in 28 Yukon. This cartridge falls between the 7mm Rem Mag and the 7mm RUM. IT uses the 404 jeffries as its parent. It was designed to fit current long actions without modification. It is throated for the 180gr vld's. Preliminary testing is showing velocities with 180's to be in the mid 3100's. It does have a generous neck and 35° shoulder. I will post new test results as i complete them. Please post a reply if you have any interest in a cartridge like what i have described.

404 jeffries has a .545" rim diameter, the remington ultra mags have a .532" rim diameter which are based on a 404 jeffries with a rebated rim. So this is actually the same exact thing as a 28Nolser with a 35 degree shoulder and a longer neck.

So the 7 SAUM is the exact same as the 7 dakota? The WSM'S,the RUM'S,SAUM'S as well as Dakota's and Nosler's are all based on The 404 case with .532" rim dia. I don't believe this qualifies them as being "exact same". The 28 Yukon and 28 nosler DO NOT share anymore than shoulder angle and parent case. :)

In no way shape or form. The 7mm SAUM has a case head of .532 and is only 2.035" long. the dakota has a case head of .545 and is 2.5" long. Also the body taper is different. Thats what im getting at Are you using a case head of .532 or .545? if its .532 you are making your brass from a Remington Ultra Mag case or trimming the case head on .404 jeffries to bring it down to .532 so either way your making shortenend RUM brass just like the .28 Nosler.

You are correct, the Dakota's do use a .545" case head. The Yukon uses a .532" like the RUM'S and yes the Nosler. This does allow for the use of common magnum actions without modification of boltface. This will also allow 7mm Rem Mag shooters as well as 7lrm and a few others to rechamber if so desired.

SO you are making brass from a 7mm RUM i take it? With the shoulder pushed back and improved? how are you improving the shoulder angle with out fireforming?
