28 Yukon

Just completed a new build chambered in 28 Yukon. This cartridge falls between the 7mm Rem Mag and the 7mm RUM. IT uses the 404 jeffries as its parent. It was designed to fit current long actions without modification. It is throated for the 180gr vld's. Preliminary testing is showing velocities with 180's to be in the mid 3100's. It does have a generous neck and 35° shoulder. I will post new test results as i complete them. Please post a reply if you have any interest in a cartridge like what i have described.

Great, thanks. Has this cartridge been around, or is it your design. What is your procedure for fire forming? Looks pretty sexy to me!

Tony.

Really hard to come up with something original... It is of my own design however. Lot of people wanted something more than 7 Rem Mag but not so much as the RUM.

No fireforming necessary as the parent brass is longer than formed. I use a similar die with a more shallow shoulder angle to get close then finish with a die of the correct angle. After forming turn necks as they get thicker towards base. I would also reccomend annealing to increase brass life.

Yep, I am actually looking for something like that right now for the 180gr. class of bullets. Was really leaning toward the Dakota. Do you have a reamer print you could post?

Tony.

I am sitting on the reamer print at this time as i make my living building rifles. I would be happy to chamber one for you however. I hope you understand. I'm Testing first rifle right now and if there are no further changes in throat, leade and body dimensions i may go public with reamer print.

Although you can obtain similar velocities from the practical it does not address C.O.L. . The Yukon is short enough that the long bullets may be seated out so as not to protrude into boiler room. It is also believed that a short fat stack of powder is easier to light consistently than a long skinny stack. I don't personally believe that a belt is a hinderence, but there are those that would argue otherwise.

Looks like you've got a nice trail sent. Let's see a pic of your rifle. I don't mind the belt one bit, I've been shooting 7mag to much to let that worry me. I want some more punch but not a ultra mag. I'm not a fan of them for some reason. What kind of barrel life are you looking at with you Yukon? I've got over 3500 out of my 7 mag
