Make that your FIRST "Go to" Bartlein barrel outlet. I've never NOT found what I've needed there
That barrel ^^ will debut at Bayou Sunday for the 1,000 yard club match with an even longer free bore than the earlier pictured rifle, to allow testing of both 48 and 49 grains of powder. Probably 2 relays, with a relay reserved to test my planned state rsaum barrel with 190 A-Tips.
On the left is the fill level of 48.0 grains while the right is 49.0. The powder is H4350. There’s simply no getting around load compression when this much powder is being used. The barrel hasn’t been finished or tested at this point but I would expect velocity from it at well over 2,500 FPS, and will stick to CCI 41 mil spec primers exclusively.
It’s very easy to discern in the picture where exactly the bullet is seated in the neck, and that is slightly shallower than my other rifle permits, increasing the case capacity. It ought to be perfectly extractable but let’s hope that doesn’t get often tested
This barrel will be on a conventional F/TR XIT -Phoenix bipod set up.
In the meantime I prepped two new barrels to shoot the 90’s, Bergers so far and now I do have some .22 A-Tips to load up.

I’m showing that at 2,500 FPS, the 250 A-Tip drifts the identical 5.0 moa that a 184 hybrid drifts at 1,000, if your velocity is 2,975, an area of the short magnums and beyond what a .284 can propel them to.
I think that real world drift will be backed up in that the .308 retained energy on target at 1,000 is actually significantly greater than the 7 magnums.
Compared to the WSM with a Berger 215, the nominal 10 mph drift is equal at 1,000, if you shoot the 215 at 2,960.

If it works, I’ll be very curious how long the rules will permit a .308 loaded round that shoots inside almost all open cartridges and needs a .338 LM seating die, to continue.
Someone needs to neck down the .338 LM and shoot these out of it. Their BC is actually higher that the 300 grain A-Tip, a fact which was a little discouraging to me as a large amount of my h-1000 sits in loaded .338 cases right now.

Early on up above, there’s a post about the test load of 50.0 grains of RE 17, which is where the primer fell out of the brass with these bullets, in my original rifle. (Needed to work up to pin point where it is to stay well away from).
I’d be curious what the pressure shows to be, there, Doug?
I’m looking to have the new rifle tomorrow and work up loads.
