.250 Ackley

Since the .25 cal. must be the bastard child, I chose this forum since it IS for a hunting round.....anyone have load data for a Rem. 700, 10 twist, 23" bbl. in .250 Ackley? Having throated for 100 gr. Nosler BT..... TIA

I have had great luck with Re-15 in my savage 10 twist. Worked better for me with 100 grain pills accuracy wise, than H-4350. But your mileage may vary. dcl

A little late to the party, but:

In my custom R-700 w/ a 1-10 twist 25" BlackStar barrel, 26.5 grain RL-19 behind 100-gr Ballistic Tip is my antelope load. (WLR primer, Rem 22-250 brass.)

I also found an accurate node at ~24.5 grains, but chose the higher velocity as the groups were indistinguishable.

The only other powder I tried was AA-2520 based on some anecdotal success I read about, but I ran out of patience, whereas the RL-19 paid off rather quickly.

brian356- thanks for the feedback, I will give Rel. 19 a try. My best load to date has been 39.5/ H-4895 with 100 gr. Ballistic Tips. I am re-discovering 4895....this old standby seems to work in almost everything....and in some cases is the powder to beat.

Reviewing available load data and anecdotes back when I developed my loads, H-4895 was listed as a top choice for 250 Ackley. I only ever tried it with a 87-grain bullet.

I forgot to mention, my results were with moly-coated bullets. Approach my 26.5 grains with caution, as moly usually allows burning more powder before max load is reached.

A newer powder I will be trying soon which I believe may be perfect for this wildcat is CFE 223.
