243win reloder 17 loads, 243win vs 6xc question, and barrel life questions

I have found a load in the articles section with a 6XC pushing a 107gr at 3319fps with reloder 17
Unless I am wrong the 243 has more case capacity the the 6xc, so shouldnt I be-able to push it at-least as fast?

Also I have searched all over but cannot find any good rl-17 load data for the 243.
Does any one have some good load data for the 243 win?

I just bought some 75gr v-max and I would like to run them at 3500+fps

Finally how many rounds are you getting out of the 6xc and the 243win, and barrel life prolongment advice and proven techniques?

Thank you all for any help

Hey omahaguy, I have been using RL 17 to load up some of the loads for 80 grains up in my 243 Winchester. I am shooting just a factory Howa Axiom varmint model with a 24 inch barrel as my coyote gun. I loaded up some of the 80 grain Berger with 44 grains of RL 17 and it chronos at 3450 and shoots really nice small groups for me. I also shoot 42.5 grains of RL17 just behind 90 grain Berger BT Match Bullets, Haven't chronographed that load but I am sure it is doing +3100fps and it shoots nice. I jump both bullets .010" from the lands. I have always found my rifle shoots a little faster then most manuals state, it could be the rifle or the fact that here in Prescott, AZ we are at around 5300 feet above sea level so the air is thinner. Hope this helps a little.

In my switch bbl .243 using 115 gr. DTAC BN's I settled on two loads. Please start off low & work up. Wolf primers, 41.0gr. RL17 & 47.5 grs. RL25. I tested both of these for accuracy out to the limit of our gun clubs range (400 yds.) 5 shot groups running 2.5 - 3.125". I switched bbls back to 6 XC & didn't get a chance to chrono.

I am very interested in some RL17 data for the .243 win as well. Like you said it is very hard to find. I am running 105/107 gr bullets

If you find any info please pass it on to us that don't get to play much on the net except at work, I've been shooting Retumbo and 107SMKs' with god results but I have a pound of RL-17 that needs to find something to be burnt in. Later,

Kirk

I posted this same info in the .243/.243AI load info page, just in case you missed it:

Ruger VT 26", 1:9"

105 Berger VLD
2.910" (.010" off lands)
Fed. brass
Rem. LR primer
43.3 Gr R17 = 3170 FPS

105 Berger VLD
2.910 (.010" off lands)
Fed brass
Rem LR primer
49.2 gr Retumbo (compressed) = 3075 FPS

80 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tip
2.800" (.005" off lands)
Fed brass
Rem. LR primer
45.0 gr R17 = 3500 FPS

I'd never substitute another make of brass with these loads with the exception of maybe Remington as it usually weighs close to Federal, still, better work up to it.
