22ARC

The 22arc has cought my eye as a new rabbit hole to explore . After reading .I think I have a handful of cartridges that can already out do what the arc claims...
And yes they can and are ran in an AR platform.
Is this just a case of an old product in a new package ..
As for now I can't see new barrel, new dies, new brass..to do what I already can..
Why not jump to the 22 creed 22AR turbo 22br and on and on..hahaha..
Just my thoughts

looks like there are trying to reinvent the wheel
basically a 224 Valkryie they are just trying to out do Federal

Be a slick little truck gun in a Howa Mini action!
Jefferson Outdoors makes a bottom metal magazine conversion for the Howa Mini-1500. The upgraded bottom metal uses CZ527 metal magazines! No more issues/concern about reliability from Howa's "iffy" polymer magazines.

6mm Grendel (aka 6mmAR) and 22 Grendel has been around for years. Pretty much as soon as the 6.5 Grendel was release then shooters wildcatted the cartridge.

The .224 Valkyrie was the new kid that tried to carve out its niche as the .22 cal 1000 yard specialist out of AR15. Unfortunately, Valkyrie has to be pushed too hard resulting in blown primer pockets and short brass life. I expect that going forward (once ammo is on shelves) the .22 Grendel will be death stroke for .224 Valkyrie.

I bought the DIP bottom metal because it was in stock. I turned some pillars to set the magazine height that allows the bolt to run without interference. Turned out ok but there is a super slight angle on the bottom metal that I can't duplicate with what machines I have available so I will have to bed them in and take out material around the pillars once they are set and bed the bottom metal to the pillars.

Curious if anyone was able to do any work with the 22 ARC over the winter. I'm curious how it stacks up to a 223AI pushing 53gr vmax and 75gr eld in a 26" bolt gun. All the numbers I've seen so far would indicate that it's a lot less than a 100 fps bump and that the real advantage comes from the ability to run the 80-90gr stuff which isn't something I'm really interested in doing.

Will be interesting to see how the various barrel/upper/rifle suppliers try to get this right.
It's this 'gotta fit in an AR mag' thing with heavy bullets that limits fast 22 cal designs.
I jumped on the 22 Nosler, even with the bad press.
I wanted a slow fire 600/1000yd low recoil AR for paper.
Most of the complaints with the 22N was with the brass but that seemed to me caused by gas issues.
I start losing pockets at 5 to 6 firings, never ever gonna make 20.
My cases grow and need trimming each time.
My 28" velocity with 85.5s is right at 3000fps (with SB6.5) but they are LONG :)
Seems a lot of guys jumped on the wagon, as I did with the .22 Nosler, but then there was the Valkyrie. I chose the Nosler as it was deemed as much better fit due to throating than the Valkyrie is for varmint-weight bullets. I have well over six loadings on my first large batch of brass and I've experienced zero issues with the Nosler brass. Pockets still super tight, little case stretch (I bump mine no more than .002" in my A/R). A great, very accurate cartridge. I think shooting those 85.5's would have been much better served with the Valkyrie. One thing for sure - that Valkyrie brass is much more available and less expensive by no small amount.

Twist rates and freebore are things you can specify with many barrel makers.
That makes choosing bullets on the buyer to pick the correct barrel parameters for their particular application. AR mag length reloading the 22N with heavies is pretty much out of the question.
I start with a 100 prepped cases and yes by 5 or 6 reloads I've lost 10% or so to pockets.
Then more and more. Then prep another 100.

For single loading mid/long range mag length is not an issue. I'm sticking with the 22N AR until I 'Master' 600. The wife is working on it with a 22N Savage bolt gun I put together for a Christmas present.
As far as brass, I'm deep with Nosler, Dogtown, and Hagar brass.
Midway has Dogtown brass for $36/100. Heavy bullets aren't cheap though.
