Bob - can you tell me from which e-target system the attached display originated? I like seeing velocity at the target face and the score for each shot side-by-side. BTW - nice chatting with you at ENGC a couple weekends ago. I'd imagine shooting the .223 at 1200 yd was a wee bit more challenging than 600 yd. Very impressive shooting!

The number of shots can significantly alter SD values. This data was taken from a 17 shot string where the 5-shot strings 'data' was taken sequentially from the 17 shot string
This is interesting.... I have always been in favor a of powders that are a touch on the fast side because they burn more completely and cleanly. My standard advice has always been that when given a choice between two powders that seem to perform comparably, pick the one with the faster burn rate.
I was sold some N550 by someone claiming it was the preferred powder for Palma, TR and FTR, and 10 pounds has been sitting in my cabinet for years because I never liked the numbers. I always felt N540 would have been a more appropriate choice, but never even considered N135. I will have to give it a try though.
It's a funny thing that some "experienced" shooters gravitate powders on the slow side and I could never get my head around that rationale. The most common claim is that slower powders get better barrel life, and whether true or not, I want the powder that produces the best most consistent performance, and the difference in barrel life can be dammed.
Maybe I can still use that N550 to light the BBQ.

How has your view on this changed after watching Whidden shoot a 450-37X @ Perry last weekend with a 223?
Whidden is great, no doubt he could have shot that same score with a 308. But it is awesome to see the 223’s do well. Thomas McGowan was using one too as was Kim Rowe I assume. Big aggregates that day.

I shot 223 for the first 3 days and it shot well a couple of matches and not so well for a couple of others. I wasn’t sure if it was the rifle, sight, iris, load, or the trigger yanker. So I went to the 308 for the last two days and something changed because I shot fairly well on Saturday. Back to the drawing board…
I have tried real hard to get my 223 to work, but same for me it is inconsistent whereas my 308 is stupid easy. No doubt 223’s can work, but they are finicky compared to 308

It can be done. I will get there. Just missing some small details to get consistency. I can get single digit SD with Lapua, N135, FGMMAR primer and 90 VLD. But I get primary extraction click with Lapua and leaky primers @ 2850 +/-. Primed wolf is a bit worse SD (11-13) but no extraction issues. Still leaky primers now and then but crimped. I cannot get to Bob’s charge (24.6) without primers falling out.
.218/.224 5R 6.8T Bartlein. Ray’s 85.5 reamer (.200 fb from end of neck). Naked bullets. Bore is somewhere likely around .2183 more or less as a .2181 bushing fit when chambering.
Either I need more freebore or I need to coat bullets… we will try some moly and weight sort brass and see how it goes. I am loading with autotrickler V3 to .02 grain resolution (within 2-3 kernels of N135). .002 neck tension, lubed necks.
308 is definitely 500% easier to load for. I use same method I do for 223 and the rifle holds sub X ring elevation at 1k without much issue.
My artificial knee was so painful Saturday morning i left and didn't get to shoot the Palma match.
Great shooting by John a class act all the way.

I can’t get to Gills loads with any powder, he has to have a different freebore diameter that allows is. I have a chamber very close to the Manson, .196 freebore. I just got some n135, but I was getting the best numbers with n150. The key is don’t push 223, or brass can be one and done. Which is not what I want. It seems 90’s at 2820-2840 is a good window to be in. When I talked to John at the western wildcat in March he was running a slow load and very light neck tension using the chamber to seat. I have never played with soft seating as I like to be able to pull a round with no problems.
What were the wind conditions? Were there many variables in gust speed?
Had to be pretty consistent looking at the overall aggs shot. Whidden had a 150-15@8, 150-11@9 and 150-11@1k. Crazy good 1k score

I have been told that 25.0 of N150 is golden but you need a drop tube to get it all in the case
