222 SKI

Purchased a 40 X rifle, Barrel is marked 222 SKI/.244 NK.
It seems to have a PPC bolt face.
Anybody know anything about this cartridge.
Thanks You in Advance!

It could be a 22PPC short .100" . I once had an older benchrest rifle. It was stamped "222 SKI", and it was a 22PPC -.100" chambering. I believe benchrest shooter, Mike Ratigan, wrote about it in his book "Extreme Rifle Accuracy". He was a huge fan of the 22PPC short.

There were a few versions of this based off the 22PPC. The most common was to just run the 22PPC reamer in 'short'...stopping however 'short' they wanted to end up.

Doing a Cerrosafe of the chamber will net you some info...but not all. If the front end is PPC dimensioned, you'll have to determine where the bolt face is relative to that.

You know where this is headed, right? ;)

Good shootin' -Al

There was once a rifle guy, Robert Stenski-----SKI Rifles located in
Indiana.

He hd a reputation for doing good work-----wonder if this might be
something from him.

Additionally, the late Dick Wright, benchrest shooter and contributor to Precision Shooting magazine, wrote about the 222 SKI. His was a 22PPC Short .100". He wrote a three-part series on it and his rifle in early/mid 2001, if I recall correctly. The various article titles had "Snake" in the titles, because he was using one of the early black carbon fiber stocks that looked like snake scales.

Thank you, Everybody for your answers. I believe it would be the .22 PPC short.
Barrel is toast inside. So will rebarrel to a known cartridge.

Just spoke with Dan Dowling about this cartridge. He said it was a 22 Waldog from 40 years ago.
Depends on the shoulder angle.
Am thinking to open bolt face to a .473 and make a 22-250 out of it.
