22 ARC Magazines

I just ordered a 22 ARC upper today and would like some advice on magazines. I'm reading conflicting opinions (who would have guessed?) on whether or not std 223 mags will work. Assuming I need new mags, if I understand it correctly, 6mm ARC mags are the same as 22 ARC mags.

Secondly, any recommendations? Opinions on Midway's AR-Stoner, ASC, E-lander, CMMG, or Duramag?

Yeah, no on the 223 magazine for a .441" case. Will it work? Maybe if you don't load but a few rounds in the magazine but the "ribs" on the sides of the magazines are different due to different case dimensions. TMI....

There seem to be a lot of reviews for magazines that fit the .441" cases. Some make a specific 6ARC magazine and also a specific Grendel magazine. I have some of each and other than the color of the follower, they appear to be the same except for the front of the magazine being relieved a little.

Personally, I have not experienced any problems with ASC, PRI, Dura Mag, and a pair of Geissele magazines that a small amount of tweaking would not resolve. I don't know how many magazines for the .441" cases I have, but it is more than 15. With the exception of the PRI and Geissele magazines, they are inexpensive so get a few at a time.

So what kind of tweaking do you do?

For the 6ARC and Grendel, I polish the "lips" so the cases slide easier. I relieve and polish the front of the magazine about 1/8", and I polish the sides in front of the lips. I use cratex wheels on my dremel as I want a smooth bevel. I finish up with felt cones with a fine compound. You can slide a loaded round, or a piece of brass, out of the magazine and anywhere the cases slide, I polish. It doesn't take long after you've done one or twelve.

Whether this actually helps them feed, I can't say, as I do this before I ever use them. Another side benefit (or THE benefit) is it makes the magazine part of feed cycle be kinder to expensive brass.

I do a similar polish on all of my barrel extensions with the cratex wheel and felt cones. I focus on the feed ramps and the ejection side lugs. I'm only trying to smooth these areas. The lugs on the ejection side tend to gouge brass when new. Probably after a few hundred rounds it will smooth out anyway, but I don't want gouges in my brass possibly shortening their life anytime.
