Mt. Boy -
Howdy !
Boy if your 1-12 barrel would allow their use, then it would be hard to beat the Hornady 55SX ! It has been my go to groundhog bullet for 45 yr. When Fred Sinclair make me a custom groundhog gun chambered in my .22-35 Remington wildcat, I had him set it up specifically for the 55SX.
As it turned out, the 55SX out-shot all other .224" cal bullets of any wt, including custom 52gr benchrest bullets; when shot from that rifle.
I am a fan of shooting high load density. My powder recommendations are in that vein. These days, temp stable powders like H4350 and the new StaBal 6.5 deserve a look. Hybrid 100V is also in that burn rate range. I was able to successfully shoot the 55SX from 24" 1-14 twist
.22-250 barrels and also my 24" Hart SS 1-14 .22-35. The highest vel I shot was 3,690fps, which was well above Hornady's max recommended
velocity level. That does suggest that max charges of some of the above powders in a .22-250 might approach the 55SX' vel limits.
IMHO- given the comparative low price of the 55SX, they'd be worth a try ?
