22-250 bullet of choice.

My old Savage sporter shoots 50 Bal Tips and Reloder 15 very well. But guess what, that doesn't mean the same load will be good in yours. Nobody can tell you what bullet your gun will like. You just have to try them and see.
This isn’t my first gun. I know that .. If you read my post I was just asking for bullets that they recommend and have good luck with.

I understood your post. And my answer is still and always will be the same. Someone recommends a bullet that works just great in their gun, doesn't mean it'll be just great in yours. There are lots of different, good, .22 bullets out there and every one of them will work great in someone's gun. So me recommending what's good in mine isn't necessarily what'll be best in yours.

All I asked for was for a little info about bullets that guys have good luck with to point me in the direction of a bullet to start with. I got a lot of good info from guys willing to help. I am sure I will figure out what bullet my gun likes and works good for ground hogs and what ever else I decide to use it for. Thanks have a good day

I went thru my bullets today. Alot of good choice for a 1@12
Nosler 50 55 60gr by
V max 50 55 60gr and 50 55 gr z max
Hornady 52gr a max
Hornady 50 52 53 55 gr sp some match
Sierra 50 55 gr bking 52 53 55gr match
Speer 50 52 55gr
Berger 50 55 gr hp.
I know I am forgetting some. But the 1@12 is better than the 1@14. I have been looking at the ruger predator 22 250 1@10 twist.

My first “just for varmints rifle” was a Winchester heavy barrel 22-250 around 1979.
Although I have had great luck with all of the plastic tipped bullets through the years in a bunch of varmint rifles, I probably killed more ground hogs and foxes with the Sierra 55 flat base spritzer. Plenty accurate and plenty deadly!

Thanks for the info

Yes, it was a 12FV with the 1:12 twist, 26" barrel. It wasn't really picky but it tightened up tremendously with the 60 Vmax. I'm a bit partial to that bullet anyway due to price, effectiveness and accuracy.
Have you shot it at any distance. I was thinking about some 60s but wasn’t sure how they would stabilize

My home range is set up for 450 yards. Every gun I have gets shot at that distance. Some on paper, some at steel. 60gr Vmax are great for that distance. Never missed the 8 inch plate in calm conditions, which is broadside coyote size. I don't remember putting it to paper much, that barrel was shot out at about 2000 rounds and it's now a 22-250 AI, which is one of my most accurate guns. The vmax gets to my big steel plate with about 13 MOA out of my home defense AR, mixed brass, 11.5" barrel at about 2600 fps.

I wouldn't worry about it not stabilizing, they aren't the longest bullets out there . I think even a 65gr game king will stabilize out of a 12 twist .

I had a couple of Savage 12 Twist 22-250’s in a 116 model
It accurately shot 34 grain dogtowns to 69 grain Nosler CC
This 69 only shot above 4,000 ft elevation.
The 60 V-Max shoots at Sea level in any 12 twist.
My go to load for years was the 60 grain V-Max, Varget, WLRP.
The Sierra 60 grain Tipped MatchKing is just as long as the Nosler 69 CC it’s a bad choice. .9 inches on both.

Nowadays you need to have a couple of options when we experience shortages during every damn election year. It wasn’t raining when Noah built his arc.

This load has shot very well in several factory rifles, Rem, TC, Sav. 36-36.5 gr Varget, 55 Nosler bt, Rem 9.5, oal 2.375. Always work up your loads, this load is a max in some rifles.

My FV12 seems to like the 50 or 55 gr HP's more than the tipped bullets. I've had inconsistent groups with the 53g varmageddons and H380, so I recently tried Noslers load data at 37.0g of H380 and 50gr and 55gr HP's, 3 shot groups were showing good promise.

I have a Browning 78 in 22-250. Does anyone know what twist they came in? It belong to my Pop and he is not around. nilebartram

I've owned a .22-250 for about 18 years and have tried a lot of bullets looking for the perfect match. Out of 3 different rifles the best shooting bullet for me has always been the 52 gr Sierra.

Have tried Hornady, Sierra and Nosler. Surprisingly the 50 gr and 55 gr shoot well but not as good as the 52 gr.

Heard such great things about Tikka when I first got into firearms way back and bought a 22-250 lite.
Come to find later on that the 1:14 twist rate is terrible for anything over even 50Grains.

Is there any reason a company would continue to make the barrels in this twist rate? It's very hard to find good solid bullets under 50 grain, even Hornady has discontinued the GMX in 50 grain and under. Most manufacturers start to only carry the frangible varmint rounds at that weight and they make a mess of the coyote pelts.

Try some Sierra 63 Gr SMPs. They are one of the best shooting bullets that I’ve tried in my 1:14 twist 22-250. Unfortunately, I can’t attest to how they will perform on a coyote.
