20 VarTarg

Does anyone have experience with the 20 VarTarg ? I am considering having an XP 100 rebarrelled in this cartridge. What you know about the round would help me with the decision.

Rupe,

I love the round, based on what my friends have told me about it and I'm building a 20 VarTarg rifle right now using a Savage action and a nice Claro Walnut stock.

It is probably the most efficient 20 caliber round, easy to form and load, and uses very little powder to acheive 3750+ fps.

If you have not read the 20 Caliber Guide yet, you might want to:

Kory - Thanks for the reply. I have read the article on the site. From what I have read, it appears like it would be an efficient performer in the XP with a 14 or 15 inch barrel. Will be anxious to hear how your project comes out. Thanks

Rupe,

Sound good, but please don't expect 3700+ fps velocity with a 15" barrel. For that speed, you need a 22 to 24" barrel.

Kory

Kory - I hear you on the velocity. What I'm looking for is accuracy potential and performance. Thanks.

Rupe,

I think you'll find the 20 VT very accurate and the recoil is very mild. Noticeable less than the 221 FB. You'll end up with a nice gun. I'm jelous! I've been trying to find a XP100 at a reasonable price for a long time now, with no luck. I think the 20 VT will be a perfect round for that platform. Please let us know how it works out. I've had great results with Lilja's 20 caliber barrels. They make XP100 barrels also. You might want to order one from Dan Lilja. Tell him Kory Hamzeh sent ya.

Regards,
Kory

Kory - Would you have a contact number or e-mail for Lilja ? If so, I would like to contact him on the price for a barrel. Thanks.

Chuck

A good friend has 4 barrels in 20 VT....douglas and lilja

he just called me ...has 3 different barrel lengths just to see what velocity changes would result 26, 24, and 22. I will try and post the info .... very very impressive

he also had and article in small cal news on the 20 pup

Well I have had several conversations and have not wrote down any of the info he has told me....he is about to take off shooting
"dawgs" for a few months so I'll see if I can help.... he actually has a barrel on his unlimited that he has tried as well,20 pup)

I called him Monday and his "progressive press" was about to be thrown out the window .... conversation short and not very sweet

he hates the internet or I would just tell him to post info

regards...

Ogre6br.......called him today ... this is what he told me:
20 VT INFO
26" Douglas nesika j 32gr bullet h4198 av. 3957

24" Douglas cz527,Tom rippey built) " " av. 3904

22" krieger rem mod 7 trued by G ocock ? av 3890

out of his "20 pup" av 3980 this is what he will shoot in his unlimited ...
hope this helps all I know is by this time next year I should have one that being a 20 VT

The 3 barrels listed are all dog guns in 20 VT
rl 10 and h4198 are used I will not post charges as every gun is totally different
Regards to all

I really think that the 20 vt is the 6br of the 20 cal world....

burns less powder than other 20 cals at an highly efficient manner...very low recoil, talk about a pleasure to shoot...that being said only shot a 221 fb and my 204..low recoil = more fun

low recoil low powder consumed and high velocity's, pretty cool

just my 2 pennies
