20 Practical pet loads

The .20 Practical is inherently accurate. Hard to go wrong with any of the suggested loads. 22 gr. of IMR 4198,at 2.20 oal

Could I ask what a good starting load would look like with h4198? Has anyone used ramshot tac and if so how did it do.
Start at 22.0 grains of H4198 and work up from there. I found joy at 22.7 grains, but that's my rifle. Standard, common-sense caveats apply.

10,4. 10x seems to be kinda dirty. I'm considering a few powders including TAC and 4198. T b an you for your input.

My pleasure.

H4198 performs well in my rifle despite the fact that there's plenty of room in a charged case. Sometimes case fill doesn't mean much. It's also a pretty clean powder. @hogpatrol is a big fan of VV-133 in the .20 Practical and that powder leaves almost no trace of combustion. Kinda weird . . .

Yes, I'm sorry I should have specified. I was hopig to find pressure. I loaded 3 each from 23.5- 26.0 and never did hit pressure. It's about 30 degrees here today with hardly no wind.

Finally got the 20P all put together and brass prepped for loading. Looks like most 40 grain loads with benchmark are around 25-25.5 gn so I think I'll start around 23.8 and work up with the BM. Probably start around 22 gn with H4198 and go up from there. Do these seem like reasonable starting points from everyone's experiences?

Also, for those using redding neck bushing dies. What part did you purchase to swap out the recapping rod assembly in the 223 die? I bought a 204R decapping assembly but it does not screw into the 223 die, 204 assembly has much smaller diameter. And the decap rod itself on the 204 assembly isn't threaded in like others so I can't just swap it. I can make due for now butbonce these first 200 pcs of brass are shot I'll need the right part for resizing. Any help would be appreciated

Use a 17 fireball rod setup or deprime with a dedicated die and do away with the decapping rod altogether.

My intent was to still run a rod with an expander ball in order to round case mouths back out after the AR dents the side in. Rather than add a step and run a mandrel first then neck down.

Is the 20P an AR platform or bolt gun? It's best to use new .223 brass or ones used in a bolt gun.
