.20 Creedmoor?

As hard as the 22 Creedmoor is one throats makes me think I’d look for a little less capacity. Maybe a 20GT or something. Just thinking out loud.

What did you end up going with?

Old post, but I too would be curious as to whether the OP went ahead with this project, and if so how it worked out.

On the face of it, a 20 Creedmoor is wildly over bore-capacity. Using the standard measure of case capacity (in grains water) divided by the bore area (in square inches), this combination has an overbore index number of c. 1590. Given that the 7mm Rem Magnum, long the standard benchmark for where serious over bore capacity occurs runs at around 1300, this would be a pretty extreme example.

Hope you got a 9 twist barrel to keep rpm somewhat reasonable. Will be interesting to see if you can find another node around 4000-4100fps.My 20 Dasher loved the Berger 50 at 4100fps.It shoots the 55 well at 3750 with N550.
Look at powders slower than you might choose for conventional cartridges when working with small caliber overbore cartridges. Will be interesting to see how you do with this project, would think you will have plenty of fun if you pace your shots on distant coyotes or rock chucks at 1k.Good luck with your load development and stay safe.

Matt

Even though I like and enjoy the 22-250 case and the creedmoor case, like the forum boss stated, my 20-223 ai( 40 degree shoulder) does all I need out at those over 300 yrd shots. And brass is so much more reasonable and available to form and use.

I should add, the 20 Practical and the 20 Tactical are also two great shooting cartridges, for longer ranges.

I did go with a 1:9 Pacnor barrel. I’m going to try RL26 first and then maybe Superformance or H4350 if that doesn’t work. I had a bunch of Creedmoor brass and dies laying around so I figured it would be a fun way to burn a barrel up. Even if it only lasts 500 rounds, that’s a lot of dead coyotes.

Have owned a 20BR for 20 years - thoroughly enjoy their 3990 fps performance with VVN133 & Sierra 40grain Blitzkings.
Am also a big fan of the 6GT; have always wondered if a 20GT could be an option.... expect some one has already tried it :)

Nice shooting, looking forward to a Pic of a dead coyote and the rifle. Congratulations on finishing a neat purpose built rifle. The satisfaction you will feel busting a 1000 yard coyote that thinks he's safe will be priceless and worth the price of a barrel

What a shooting machine. You should very happy with it.
Now to put it to the test as a long range coyote hammer.
Interesting to see how the bullet performs.
You might have to open up the hole point to get it to expand at long range.

Any pictures or specs on your rifle?
Be sure to keep us posted on your coyote hunting success.

Or a good 20 Tactical. Both it and the 20 Practical will do a fine job, with the correct twist. Brass is so easy to come by for either and they form super easy.
If anyone has done a.20 Creedmoor or a 20-250, we might be interested in featuring that in a Sunday Gunday Story.

Personally, I think the 20 Practical (20-.223 Rem) does all I want a .20 caliber to do -- hit ground squirrels and P-dogs out to about 400.

The Primal Rights guy did a 20 Primal (20 Creed) and had a bunch of info on it. Might be a pretty good long range Coyote rifle!

Here’s the specs on the rifle for those who asked:

Tikka Action
Pacnor 1:9 26”
Manners EH1-TK
Atlasworx DBM
Nightforce NXS 5.5-22
Mike Bryant did the work.

Is this a 22 Creedmoor or a 20 Creedmoor?

I would like to here from anyone running a 22 Creedmoor with a 1 - 14 twist. I would like to try 50 gr Blitzking in one.
