jumping bullets in a 22br

how much accuracy do you think id loose jumping 50-55gr varmint bullets in a 22br chamber designed for 90gr bergers?

yeah i know hard question but im toying with the idea because i might be able to get a cheap barrel and the loan of a reamer if i ask really nicely ;D

My 22br shoots 55gr Blitz Kings best loaded .045 off and I have had a 22-250 loaded over .100 off and was great. You might be surprised how well they do for you.

I don't know how much accuracy you'd lose shooting 50/55's in that chamber. Maybe some, maybe not much or none. But I'd want a different reamer. With 0 freebore a 55BT just touching the lands in a new chamber will seat about .70" up from the neck/shoulder junction.

Nobody here or there will be able to tell you what you want to know. Each barrel or rifle set up is a different. It may shoot outstanding or it may not be worth a hoot. Only time and effort will tell. In my mind your talking about .060 free bore difference, if you had a reamer made for the 55gr bullets. Heck who knows maybe you will be able to touch the lands or only be .020 off??? Im not sure to be down right honest. Give it a try!!!! Let us know!! Lee

yes the logical idea would be to get a new .22br reamer but in the land of OZ it isnt as easy as walking down to the hardware store and picking one up like you guys can almost do!

ill probably get the barrel for less than the reamer would cost me and ill only be using it for busting foxes under the spotlight so ill probably never have to re chamber it again.

what would the correct freebore be for a 55gr pill? then i can check what the other reamer is set up for and see how much jump there will be

do you have import restiction there on reamers?
if not the pt&g can make on for you thay send mine to england for me. it woul just mean early morring phone call

no import restriction just a self inforced budget restriction! ;D its a fun gun that MIGHT get 20 rounds a year through it so i dont want to spend much if im not going to use it. i have other guns that can do the same job allready. one of the guys i was chatting to tonight is going to have a go runnig some 55gr bullets with the long throat so itll be interesting to see what he comes up with before i commit!

In my Sav VLP .223 1:7 I've gone from jamming its favorite light bullets (Berger 52MT or MV) .010 to jumping them .067". It went from shooting acceptably to awesome. You may just be surprised jumping short bullets in a long-freebore chamber, I was.

wow thats a big jump!! good to hear its working for you ;D

1-7 twist is pritty fast for 52gr bullets how fast are you pushing them?

Indeed it is quite a big jump, but it works. I am pushing the Berger 52's right around 3200 with Benchmark. I have run them up as far as 3400 with H335. I wish I could get the heavier bullets to shoot as well in this rifle but they won't, at least not yet. In regards to jump, I have been finding that jumping Bergers in several of my other rifles is working better than jamming. "Common knowledge" says they must be jammed but I'm seeing otherwise if you get them far enough off the lands. Just throwing that out there.

im in the process of 22br build and really looking forward to it being done.....
i'v been jumping light 22's for some time ..... some in fast twist and some in slow...
the barnes i have jumped from .75 to .125..... im working on getting a 53 gr and a different 52 gr. to work in my 220 ackley.... the 55's work great....i jump them and the speed is rediculous..... in fact they are so accurate that i started trying something else just to see what i could do.....
my ar with an 8 twist shoots the 55, 69 and 75 lights out......i jump them and really pushem........
