100 yd CHALLENGE, 4 groups of 5 shots

I'm the same way lazer. Just always get people complain it cost to much to shoot 30 rounds??? It cost more in gas to drive to a spot with 100 set up for me and that's to our 900 yard range. It's just meant to be fun. I think the pm challenge came from the hide also. Lot of pm members over there. Start it up, when I get days I'll go get a loan to be able to drive out and shoot 60 or so rounds.

I'd be tempted to shoot it, providing I'd get off my lazy butt and do it. I can shoot it here in my yard. I know many others can to the same.

I think the point some members here are trying to get across is that this site is largely comprised of people that shoot competitively in games that require or allow a front rest. From what I've seen, the hide is largely comprised of shooters who are in the tactical games, and the pm forum is largely based on predator and varmint hunting. Both of those disciplines are mainly shot from bags or a bipod. On those sites it makes sense to have the no front rest rule. On this site, it doesn't make sense to ask people to put their best rifles aside, shoot from a position their less familiar with, and then use that to see who can talk the talk and walk the walk. It would be like judging Michael Jordan's professional sports career from his time playing in the White Sox minor league system.

I just don't understand if you can shoot from a rest why cannt you shot from front and rear bags? Are people that afraid to open s .1 group to .2? The guy in lead on the challenge was shooting a 6br and used a rest and managed pretty well. It's not like it's going to get posted nationally. It's the effin internet!!

All I know is 99.99% of all the posters on the internet forums about firearms shoot better than me, as far as I have read. Good idea contest, more pictures would be cool.

Ok, here's a compromising suggestion. Let's do 20 shots or 4 groups of 5, if you don't understand why, please read my prior post or go to the hide archives and see that 20 rounds increases participation, decreases price and time loading, and I belive still proves what the competition is all about. But if it's 30, and that's what the majority agrees on, so be it. Now in the leader boards, and assuming everyone is honest, just show a pic of the rifle how it was shot. Bag, bipod, rest doesn't matter. Also just give the spects, oem barrel, rem factory, kreiger, bartlin, what ever, just say. It can be simple. And it won't be a time consuming project for who ever organizes it because they won't have to catogorize everything.
That's all, lazer

Your S/H mentality and crudeness is showing. My "goal" everytime out is to shoot 0.000" moa groups, why would I lower my standards for a contest with no regulation and no reward. If I settle for 0.2 moa what would I be learning?

Let's try this a different way then. You're on a forum where a majority of the members don't care what groups they shoot from a bipod or bags. They care about shooting the smallest groups possible, which is usually done from a rest. If you want people to participate then make it something that interests the majority. According to you, a bipod only increases the group by .1, so there should be plenty of bipod guys shooting well inside a lot of guys with a rest.

I don't care either way. I've never claimed to shoot in the .1's and the minute I do there will be a picture of it on here whether it's a "challenge" or not. I was just trying to get you to realize you are dealing with a different audience here.

Since there would never be agreement on the rules, how about you just shoot your groups however you want, post the results and explain how you went about it. Picture of the rifle would be good to include as well as specifics of the gun and ammo. Then you could compare how you shot with others that shot the same way. Myself, I wouldn't participate unless I could use my front rest or my hand loads.

I like the idea though. I hear a lot of one hole group all day long stories, yet rarely do people post groups to prove it. And when they do it is one group, which means nothing to me. I really enjoy looking at the groups other people shoot.

Unfortunately I'm finding pissing matches on the forums seems to have more appeal than shooting, so I doubt anything will come of this. Anyone seen the Roosevelt post on Benchrest Central? I swear...

I'm in, but I'll be posting two sets.

One is following the rules to the letter with my COTS (commercial off the shelf) 30-06 (pics later) and the other I'll be using my semi. I don't see any reason it shouldn't be allowed, as if someone should argue that single feeding or mag feeding a semi-auto gives a benefit over a bolt I'll giggle a lot.

Hey lhsmith, I'm not calling you out but can you please post a pic of 20 to 30 rounds 5 shot groups off your rest. I wanna see how it compares to some of the entries in the hides round 4, and see how you would be learning less at shooting .200 groups.( God I just fell for the bs)

Shooting an honest .2 agg off of any type of rest isn't something easily done. Benchrest, Tactical, Fclass whatever varmint rig not easily done.

And that's no BS

Go ahead and post some of your targets Lazer. Get things kicked off

And you would be lowering your standards for the copetition of it. If your a badass shooter your a badass shooter weather you have a bag or a rest, so any competition would be appealing.

As a matter of fact I'm so tired of arguing w the benchrest guys lets just make it a shoot at 100yds, I think you will see with your heavy guns, adjustable rest, and accomadating ranges, your gonna have trouble beating some of the hard core tactical guys that have less advantage. ( God if that doesn't get you motivated what does)

Lazer- LOOK at Tims match results...they are pretty typical....or go to IBS website, there's several hundred match results listed. Our results are posted for the world to see and we do it in a set time frame, in any weather that occurs during the match, shooting alongside one another contending with each others muzzle blast. Lastly, there's no do-overs, mulligan's....you can't come back tomorrow when the wind dies down, or shoot a bunch of targets and submit your best.
