  1. Using IMR8208XBR w/ Hornady 155 gn HPBT in 308

I have used IMR 8208 in my 21 inch fly weight .308 with 155's. 1.3 grain under max 155 Hodgdon load with 155 Nosler HPBT's and Hornady (range brass). I would guess velocities were around 2,700. Managed to hit 3 inch steel at 300 most of time, missing when barrel became real hot.
  2. Inconsistent Neck Tension

I turn necks and even with the best brass a certain unequal amount is removed from one side of the neck - just enough turning to allow a bullet to slip fit inside a fired case. I anneal every 3 firings, 15 seconds, just outside of the reducing part of the flame then size the brass. Removal of...
  3. REASON FOR SHORTAGES IN GUNS AND SUPPLIES FOR RELOADING

Is a flint lock in your future?
  4. REASON FOR SHORTAGES IN GUNS AND SUPPLIES FOR RELOADING

Shortages come in and out like the tide but instead of 6 hours it's 4 years - been thru a few. Covid19 added makes is worse (exacerbate?). Retail tables that were sagging with .22LR ammo in March are now folded up and stored away in back rooms. Same reasoning between the cause of empty shelves...
  5. Small Rifle Primer Shortage

Might this result in an increase in business insurance premiums - loss history and risk assessment based on claimed previous losses.
  6. Small Rifle Primer Shortage

I have a modest stock of all kinds of primers but due to home & travel restrictions beyond my control shooting has been restricted to less than 100 rounds per week with more restrictions/controls expected. I successfully acquired the last 100 Rem 7 1/2 primers from my local Sportsman's Warehouse...
  7. Concerning the "Carpet Rule" and CIHPRS matches

Every day presents an aggravation or restriction - this is why I am a casual shooter. If I could afford a gyroscopic rifle rest I would cheerfully use it.
  8. Gunsmith Input ?

If a part sticks to a magnet that part is steel. The investment cast process can be used for making steel parts followed by final precision shaping if needed.
  9. Ring around neck and soot on shoulders 6ppc

What I think: That and annealing work hardened necks. Springy hard brass even after being turned may exhibit this. Looking at 50 fired rounds, bullets would not slip fit into the sooty necks but would slip into clean fired rounds. Neck walls were consistent thickness. Black stuff was plastered...
  10. Will we see a factory 22 Creedmoor?

I am shooting my various 7.7 twist .22-.250's more than my 6mm's. I shoot 75 ELDM's with 34.5 grains of RL16 at 3200 fps Barrel life appears to be better than my .243 and 6mm AI. Observed ballistic stuff like trajectory and wind appear to be slightly inferior to the 6mm AI with 87 Vmax's at...
  11. "Out Dated" .308 Win

Thanks for the update - intermediate role ? - I am not a particular fan of the .308 but have no reason to condemn it - It has its place. Will this (6.5 CM machine gun) result in buckets of cheap range brass? I heard they made a few Browning Auto Rifles in 6.5X55.
  12. "Out Dated" .308 Win

    Don't think I ever will see a M60 in 6.5 CM.
  13. Heavy sand?

Try to get a small sample of Barite sand (dense stuff) from a business that sells barite by the tons in bags for well drilling mud.
  14. "Out Dated" .308 Win

My .308 happened when the barrel guys I go to could not sell a light weight .308, 10 twist barrel and made me a real good deal on it - seems like the customers wanted 6mm's and 6.5mms more and my 21 inch light weight .308 barrel would not have made a good .300 WM. Being real olde I don't like to...
  15. Shooting Pdogs with David Tubb

    Your experience with the .243 & 85 Si HPBT is much like mine with the 6mm AI & 87 VMax's & RL 16 - 10 twist. I use RL 23 in the .243W with 105's.
  16. 2 days ago I almost walked down range for good....

I had 2 episodes of chest pain about 13 and 10 years ago and went to the ER. Turns out that there was no problem. Both times occurred after strenuous work - pick & shovel and installing dry wall. The folks at the ER were super efficient and did not spare an effort to check things out. I remember...
  17. Will we see a factory 22 Creedmoor?

The .22 CM sure won't last as long as a .223, our choice for volume shooting. My thinking is that .22 CM barrel life will be shorter than that of a .22-.250 but barrel life for a .243 W is not good. Comparing the .22CM with a 6mmCM I would think the .22 CM would be shot out faster. Seems like...
  18. Tractor Shot

Simple advancements in technology over single action revolvers back then - 72 empties would require 12 shooters and laborious ejection of empties or fewer shooters and laborious reloads. Technology has improved the effectiveness of sociopaths. Any shot gun hulls with little numbered flags?
  19. Will we see a factory 22 Creedmoor?

After shooting the 75 AMax/ELDM and 75 Berger for the last 5 years at about 3200 fps from a .22-.250 I would appreciate another 150-200 fps and the .22 CM would provide this. About like the .22-.250 AI that has been around for decades but no fireforming for the .22 CM. Conventional thinking has...
  20. Tractor Shot

13 years ago somebody took a shot at our house from the road 356 yards away, up and in back of our house. We had just moving into our house after a dispute with our contractor who walked out and forced me into mediation and completing the work myself. The contractor really had to eat it -...
