2 days ago I almost walked down range for good....

I had 2 episodes of chest pain about 13 and 10 years ago and went to the ER. Turns out that there was no problem. Both times occurred after strenuous work - pick & shovel and installing dry wall. The folks at the ER were super efficient and did not spare an effort to check things out. I remember chewing on an aspirin tab while they wired me up. XRAYs followed. No permanent problem. The folks at the ER approved of my reaction and visit and I was very grateful and impressed by their efforts. Others thought I was faking it and some were disappointed that it was not the "big one". I was cautioned never to disregard any symptoms of a heart attack and to submit to an complete physical exam every year including blood work. A weekly regimen of Crestor for the past 20 years, eating lots of fishes including salmons and a hard daily workout seems to be worthy. Beers, bourbons and beef are limited.

A bit of sage advice for all of you, QUIT eating crap!!!

No more cheese??
Myself and siblings blessed with perfect blood work. All the numbers where they belong for cholesterol no matter pizza cheeseburgers eggs bacon every day.
So i just felt tired around Halloween 2008. Went to a couple doctors, no big concern just blaah blah, would not say what they found. More tired till February. Got my fathers Death Certificate and cause was Congestive Heart Failure. Looked at the scribble on a receipt from the minor clinic that would Not show me my own chest xray and there it was...CHF. Wikipedia has a sketch of the symptoms, yup that was me. I went to the ER, they put me in an ambulance across town to the new heart hospital for a week off work. Im still tired and still have good blood numbers. There is more to it but no more heavy lifting. Everything is done in thirds with a break or a nap.

Great news!
To all forum members over 50 if you haven't been to a cardiologist , GO NOW.

My diet sucks but I'm going to work on it.... The suger is going to be hard... When I got out of the hospital I told my wife stop somewhere so I can get a Coke and I must stop smoking.... The 3 days without either , I thought I was going to kill somebody.. seriously I thought I was gonna start pulling my hair out.... This is not going to be easy.... We got caught up in a forest fire 8 years ago and lost pretty much everything , my wife and I put it all back in the hot Texas sun... It seems like every since then things won't get back to normal... And as far as pills , I have a handful a day now to take for sure...

I have had a so many ekg after the fire and was told nothing was wrong... This time it took 30 seconds and in a helicopter I was going... I thought they were crazy... I couldn't believe it... In no way I thought I was having a heart attack... I even asked them , well at least it must have been minor and they said NOPE. It was one of the worst you can have.. I seriously can't get over it but when I saw the look on that doctors face and when I was at the big hospital laying on a table and they started asking me questions like , if you die who do you want to make decisions or do you want us to revive you it starts getting real....

Glad you are doing better now.. Remember if you go Down Range and see a bright light. Stop and turn around and go back to the bench.. lol..

I’m glad you made the call. So many times, us old guys want to tough it out. “It’ll pass, I tell myself. Just old age.” :(

I successfully made the dietary switch in 2000 , lost 50 lbs. and kept it off for 5 years before slowly adding carbohydrates back into my diet. BIG MISTAKE!

Gained back most of that lost weight and although I've tried repeatedly to go carb free again, the F-ing carb withdrawal is what's stopping me. Much more painful than last time. I go a week and a half and start feeling like I'm going to DIE. I've read that sugar addiction withdrawal is worse than heroin.

Just had a physical and all my blood tests came back good, so at least I've got that going for me.;)

my weakness too sugar and carbs!!!!!! only way to get the energy I need , Don't smoke (I did but quit when I was 37, 10 years prior, The docs did blame the first one on smoking until the 2nd and 3rd) drink do drugs or chase women, sadly never really did any of the fun ? stuff, so SUGAR it is, When I did finally go all the way I lost 36 lbs in about 6 months and kept it off until this F__en Virus, I still work every day but now I don't go anywhere.....

The sugar and caffeine rollercoaster....amazing that once you get off both, you stop feeling tired. No more ups and downs, but getting there just ain't as easy as saying I'm a'gonna. Like any other addiction, it's painful and very challenging unless you're just too busy to listen to your body complaining.

At 57, I had mild chest pressure all Thursday. Woke up on Friday and decided to go get checked out. As I was brushing my teeth, the heart attack came full on. I taught CPR for years so I knew what it was.
I walked down the hall and told my son he had to take me to the hospital. He took one look at me and shot out of bed as if he’d been hit with a cattle prod.
Well, it got worse, so we called 911 and got transported to the ER. Spoke to the Cardiologist there. That’s the last I remember until I woke up in CCU.
Got jump started twice and ended up with two stents in the widow maker.

Lifestyle change, gents. Maybe the hardest thing we’ll ever do.

Everyday is a gift now. Well, it always was, but I’m a little slow, ya know?

happen to me last Dec. 1....

I know this thread is about done but I forget two things..... One is thanks everyone for your best wishes....
The second is.... Because of covid 19 it was worse because you couldn't have visitors unless it was end of life or check out day... I got tested for the virus twice in as many days... It would have been nice to have visitors sometimes , I wouldn't release my phone ever , were I went it went.... The staff really didn't want to be around you any longer than necessary....

I had a very mild heart event about 1 1/2 years ago.
A very small piece of plague got caught in a small artery at the very top of my right ventricle. It woke me up at 3:00 am. I knew something was not right.

No matter how mild of a event you have, it will get your attention.

I spent a couple of days in the hospital. After all of the test, they determined it was sort of a freak occurrence. No stints or other procedures were performed, they just put me on the “big three”......blood thinner, BP meds, and a cholesterol med.

I am now off the BP med, but will take the blood thinner Plavix and the Statin drug forever. That blood thinner is a real pain. I can just bump my arms and it looks like someone got after me with a rubber hose.

I’m glad to hear you didn’t croak, getting old is a real bitch.

the only good thing about getting real old is it dont last that long

Genetics play a big part in the longevity of our organs, chemical toxins have a negative effect on our bodies. We have medicine and health-care that can add years to our life's, some of these medications have side effects that can be bad. Make sure your medication doses are monitored and adjusted if needed. A big one is cholesterol meds, these can cause memory or cognitive issues.
