Managing magnum recoil in f class.

I shoot very low key fclass at my local range. I’ve had to shoot with a break because I’ve had 10 back/neck surgeries. I want my shooting to count.

My question is how do people manage magnum recoil for that many shots? Is part of it a free recoil technique which I’m not sure how to do?

I have a RAD system that I’m sure I’d need to put in a stiffer spring. I shoot a 7PRCW.

Any help is appreciated.

Weighting up the gun would be a lot less obnoxious to the other shooters than being the only guy out there with a brake. Nobody enjoys the day a little more shooting next to you. If you start shooting competitive scores, the complaints will come if they haven't already.

That 7PRC is going to go through the barrel pretty quickly shooting 20 shot strings. Give serious thought to a cartridge change when nature takes its course.

He's got a 7 PRCW, not a 7 PRC.

No doubt a RAD would help but with a 10kg/22lb gun, a 7 PRCW isn't brutal.
I have a RAD and it’s about 20 lbs. I haven’t tried without a break yet. I will when I get a good winter day. I love the cartridge.

I agree that it would be annoying to others. They’ve all been gracious but now that I’m a year out then I may need a cartridge change as others have suggested. Luckily I bought a 308 bolt for my Borden. It is a 7PRCW but the problem remains the same.

I don't know anything about f-class. Are magnums required to shoot this event? Others have suggested it and I'll +1 to shoot a much more user-friendly round if possible. I really don't like recoil. I use this table to compare: https://backfire.tv/recoil/ I put .22lr at the bottom of my screen. With my settings that shows all up to 7.62x39 at the top. That's my range. If it isn't in that range it won't be one of mine. I have .22lr, .22 Hornet and .223 Rem. plus a .30Carbine that was my dad's. I don't know where it falls but I'm pretty sure it would be in there somewhere. Putting only CF on screen ranges from .17 Hornet through .243 Win. Anyway, good luck sorting it.

Since you have a standard bolt too, put a Dasher barrel on it. You have a lot of fun with it. No it won't shoot in big winds as well but you'll still be pleasantly surprised.. Especially at 600!

Or a 6.5x47 shooting 140-153.5gn bullets if you want to split the difference.
I love the 6.5x47 too. With 140's it performs very similar to the Dasher. And it'll push 153.5's in the mid 2700's which ain't too shabby. Personally I've had better luck with the 140 Hybrid shooting better. I'll be chambering another 6.5x47 barrel in a couple weeks for myself.

Two ~29” 4-groove, 8 twist Kriegers, 6.5x47 with a 0.166 freebore, would push 153.5gn Bergers 2820fps with a large dose of RL16. Really accurate but barrel life was as expected - pretty poor. Backing down to 2770fps put me in a good node and added 500 rounds of barrel life on the next two barrels after! Either way, it felt more wind resistant than the 140 hybrid. If someone had concerns about the Dasher being too small (misplaced, but we aren’t always logically motivated), the 6.5x47 feels beefier. These days I shoot a 22 PPC with 90gn bullets and find a lot of joy in it. It shoots just as small as my 6.5x47 barrels did.

I agree with going to a 6mm-dasher, BRA, etc. At our 600 yd club matches the majority shoot 6mm. I don’t think you give up much on most days and it’s probably an advantage on calm days. Plus it helps develop skills when conditions get sporty.

My brother dropped down to shoot FTR with a 223 for a couple years. His ability to pick conditions really improved.

I seem to recall @Keith Glasscock having a video about changing the springs in his RAD, but can't seem to find it... Like him, I got a selection of springs at Ace Hardware and played around until I got it dialed in.

EDIT: Found it!
