Freedom Benchrest members support???

mikegaiz

Stay frosty, my friend.
I have been a member and shooting in 1000 Yd Matches for two years. along with friends. I have yet to see any support in tallying or posting any individual early results, It seems like only two clubs show any updates and no life time totals, which have not been updated in two years. Isn't that one of the main reason for belonging to an organization? What dose Freedom Benchrest provide for members???

You got me looking into the posted Freedom Benchrest results and totals for shooting members. Not sure what you might want beyond what is already posted.

Another thing to remember is Freedom Benchrest membership is free. At their shoots you get shoot rewards and if you qualify, points. They are totaled for champion honors at the end of the season.

Yep, a lot has gone on over the last several years......IMO, FBR is a definitely a step up from GBA, but neither do/did a decent job of posting results. Why have an organization if results cannot be compared nationally and rankings are not updated?
For example, nearly one-third of all 600 and 1000 FBR match results for 2025 are still not shown on the website. How hard is it to send a file to the organization, and how hard is it for the organization to post the results?
Personally, I could care less about the little nuances in the rules, as long as they are standardized and followed. If it takes a membership fee, then, so be it, but a national organization needs dependability.

I lost interest and faith in the big organizations years ago so I can do without them. I do think as a group local lubs do a poor job posting shoot schedules and results. Some to s great job like Mifflin Co Sportsmen here in Pa as mentioned above. Some have gone Facebook but many older shooters, myself include, have never been in Facebook in our lives, so poor choice. Everyone wants to come shoot, very few want to commit to and do the work month/ week in and out.I feel some of the big organization appeal come from, look what I did.

Couldn't agree with you more about the facebook WOT

For me an organization first and foremost sets a set of rules and a format that all plat by. Posting results is the least of our problems. IMO.
No argument from me about the rules....as long as they are consistent and observed. My comment about caring less about the nuances was directed to minutae like sighter period times and record rounds. Just make the rules without exceptions, and the shooters will adapt.
Hell, I was, and am, fine with IBS, but where I am from their membership suffered from the GBA and FBR alternatives.

Not many were asked about the split or what rules they wanted. I dont know any personally. What I hear is that I just want to shoot and thats all I have now. Well, better speak up or you wont have anything IMO. There are no hard set rules or format. Thats a fact.

Disagree.....The results are just that, an end to a means. A competitor needs to
be able to check his scores and results as a comparison to the other competitors.
Stats are what drives competition......

Not interested in Freedom, and Facebook is horse sh!t. I did though hear
a whimper about UBR and Freedom, then that went quiet. I'll give my resources
to local endeavors and die a happy man. For what it's worth, most of my disposable
cash has been Tack Driver related and it's growth.

Results? I have been to matches where the shooters don't know the results. Seems posting them is sometimes a secret waiting to be revealed long after time is spent waiting for the Tactical Class shoot to end.

Probably just me but I recoil at the number of shooters that leave before results are posted and the awards are done.

That's funny buy evidently correct.

I thought that is why fbr was started. They didn't like and want to follow the NBRSA rules so to make a point they destroyed a National match and also took points away from shooters who would have became a HOF member with their win.

Disgraceful.

Now they can make rules on the fly.....how handy.....and members are getting what they pay for.

Later

Well, if people drop Freedom and go back to IBS there will be are a lot of steel monkey rests for sale.
The IBS is a shooter run organization. If guys want to change the rest rules, all they need to do is get 25 signatures and write an agenda item and it goes up for vote. If theres support for a rule change it will pass. If theres not it wont. Theres a process. Its not free nilly willy.

When Freedom goes don't count on me rejoining IBS. I think there will be many that feel the same.
My reason is in the part of the country I am willing and able to travel there were minimal IBS long range clubs and either facilities, MD's or low turnout made them not worth my often large match fees.
Freedom has already outlasted GBA. There are reasons, good ones, why membership support is off right now. Many of you don't know those reasons but they are very valid ones.
As for the best things Freedom has brought to the game, well, just look. Several of those things have brought about the, IMO, needed changes in long range.
Growth, likely too fast, has in my mind that what was offered was needed and wanted. I don't believe when Freedom began they ever expected to get the response they have gotten not only from long range but short range as well.

99.9% of active shooters have no idea what was behind the origination of FBR. First and foremost was a dispute between Ronnie Milford and Jim Cline that will never be reconciled.
The 4 that started FBR were all part of IBS, one was the president, 2 ON the 600 yard committee and one was the awards chairman .
They wanted changes to the 600 yard rules put into affect right away without putting it forward as an agenda item, Cline told them no it would have to be voted on at the beginning of the year.
At that point they labeled Cline as a dictator because he would not move forward immediately instead following the bi laws set forth in the IBS rulebook.
What's amazing is all 4 of them could have easily gotten all the rules changed that they wanted had they followed procedure since they were all members of the board.
Instead with Milfords hatred for Cline they decided to try and get him voted out as VP and David Mathews lost to Jeff Pinehart when that failed their retaliation was to start FBR and try to destroy the IBS.
There is much more that transpired but this breaks it down in a nutshell.

I have heard many stories. Unfortunately personal issues dragged every one else down with them. Im against splitting up our sport its that simple. All I care about is if this is good for the sport or not. The prize table suffers and so do the shooters. Im not donation stocks to 10 different "Nationals". We are getting terrible turn outs to matches that used to be well attended. We need serious legitimate matches to get serious shooters to put in the effort to show up. I know most guys just want to shoot, but dont you want to shoot with all the best?

I'm trying to understand the motivation behind this thread. I ask this because there are some comments that are completely false, or stupendously ignorant. I find it comical when I hear comments concerning the beginning of Freedom BR from people that weren't associated with us, and they announce the "facts" as if they were the court stenographer. Freedom BR was founded by some of the most experienced and informed board members, committee members and accounting officers of another organization. We decided that Long Range BR would never reach a best and highest future in an organization that had opposing visions, ethics and methods of operation among the e-board. Nothing More, Nothing Less.

So, let's get back to the first comment on this thread. If someone is upset about the results not being updated fast enough for them. The results and updates have improved, but maybe you can volunteer to help?

If someone is upset with the Rules and Match formats of Freedom BR approved competitions. Then write up a proposed change, submit it to any of our 26 match directors and they can submit it for a vote by the end of the year. No gathering 25 signatures, no committee approval, no oversite or possible rejection from the e-board. Just an up or down vote, without the input of the short range disciplines and possible influences of board members that have personal agendas. Does any other BR organization offer that?

So, I guess someone can complain, or maybe they can be part of what they might see as a solution.

Guys, we just came back from a great match at the Red White and Blue Range in Polar Georgia, It was a lot of fun and this is what we wish for everyone.

Thanks and please call with any questions.
