I found this Hornady .338 cal. 300 gr. A-TIP bullet on the one mile impact berm today. Just sitting in fine soil in remarkable condition. About two feet left of the big steel target sheet. What twist rate would that be?

Shouldn't be hard to estimate/ballpark. Looks like it's doing about ¼ revolution in the length of the engraved section so if you multiply the length of the engraved section (parallel to centerline) x 4, that should be the rate.
If dia is .338" then I'd estimate engraved section ≈ .676" ... multiply that x 4 = 2.7" ... I bet it's 1 turn in 3".

Never heard of a twist that fast. I'm surprised it doesn't yaw to the point of keyholing.

A friend of mine had a bullet he recovered off the shore of Lake Erie at Camp Perry.
It was discolored but otherwise perfect (except for the rifling marks).
At a mile the 338 bullet is likely slow enough to not damage .

I am calling BS that was fired from a mile away if 8.6 Blackout. Easy to drive down range for a pot shot.
Are you thinking an 8.6 BO would not have the range for a 1 mile shot? Before I retired from the State Police I was one of the RO/Instrutor's. Another RO did something stupid with a G22 firing our duty .40 S&W 180 grain subsonic ammo. He launched a few rounds over the berm. The round fully penetrated an exterior wall at a sanitary district office and hit the office manager's desk 7/10 mile down range. This is no BS and the fallout got our range closed for more than a year until changes were made to the berm and baffles. It's entirely possible the .338 round shown could travel a mile.
