Rem 700 6BR

I have money to build this, or buy something new. I would love to do both, but would prefer to do the build.

This is the culprit. It’s already in a Boyd’s pro varmint stock. I put a different bolt knob on it, and also threaded the end of the barrel for a brake. It has a budget vortex scope on it.

Curious if you have checked barrel clearance in the stock?

I have an old beat up Rem 700 30-06 that just sits in my safe, I do not enjoy shooting it. It's an old ADL hunting rifle.

Lately I've been thinking about rebarreling to something more enjoyable to shoot. I primarily only target shoot. Max is about 200yds. I've been reading about 6BR, and think that would be a neat choice. I do hand load, so a lack of factory ammo is not an issue.

Now the tricky part.
Is this something that I can achieve with off the shelf parts? Or is it 100% necessary to have a smith put this together. I'm not looking for precision, and I'm not afraid to buy some tools.
For a DIY solution, assuming you have some knowledge on how-to, contact @urbanrifleman about one of his barrel nut barrels. I'm sure he would be happy to talk to you about them.

I don’t want to spend a fortune on dies, I don’t shoot competitively. I’m thinking this Redding set will be just fine.

I doubt you would ever use the neck die in that set. I like the Forster sizing die with the higher set expander, then maybe a micrometer seating die of your choice.https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1010946147?pid=317718

I mostly use a sizing die that has interchangeable bushings. Look for bushing dies. They allow you to vary neck tension or deal with different neck thickness of different manufacturers brass. Midsouth has this:

There is a 2-die set…

I have the Redding Type-S neck-only and full-length dies. When I switched over to full-length sizing every time I thought my neck-only die would languish untouched. However, I have found it very useful to resize the neck tension when I pull a batch of bullets for whatever reason.

I recently wanted to do a new round of seating depth testing for my three Silhouette loads on my aging barrel. I had 15-30 rounds of each load left over from the season so I was able to pull the bullets using the Hornady cam-lock puller, resize the neck on the still-filled cases, then reseat the bullets long for use with the Wilson inline seater and arbor press at the range. Without resizing the neck there was almost no neck tension after pulling the bullets.

It may be an infrequent use case but it still comes in handy!
