Dang it, it was a bad night for my phone battery to die lol. What we really need as a shooting comunity is a tuner that also seats primers to specific depth then we could have the ultimate thread.

You know this reminds me of the .308 vs 6.5 creedmoor (not creedmore). I use a tuner and I've seen the results, they are undeniable, if you reject them that's on you, no one makes you use one BUT if a person like myself spends time with one and LEARNS to use it, well, I'd rather do that than reload at the range. I do all the steps before I mess with the tuner. Last year a tuner didn't help me, why? Well I had unknown gun problems.I kept expecting a Jack Daniel’s banner to pop up at the top of the page last night.
Agree. As I said earlier in the thread tuners work if the hand loader does. Those that argue tuners don't work simply don't understand how to use them. If one thinks reaching up and wringing the end of the barrel off when adjusting it then that person will probably not ever get it. Size does matter and in this case smaller wins. You know this reminds me of the .308 vs 6.5 creedmoor (not creedmore). I love the friendship of the competitors, UBR is what I'm familiar with and that is the group I'm speaking about, I've seen it several times that if a competitor has a problem ALWAYS people step in to help even up to loaning a gun to finish the match. A good group of guys.
Yes this is a little "off topic" but heck, this whole thread has been off topic.
Lol! Nah. I did vent but it was deserved. He always has something negative to say on my posts and it gets old. This didn't start last night or with this thread.I kept expecting a Jack Daniel’s banner to pop up at the top of the page last night.
I tried Speedy's method on a couple of new barrels yesterday. It works great! FYI, I had used the Hornady tool also. Speedy's method gave a BTO of about 0.008 shorter for both barrels. I must have been pressing the bullet into the lands with the Hornady tool.Best most accurate way I've found was Speedy G's way. Take off the barrel and clamp it with chamber up. Load one long. Plunk it in and it sticks under its own weight. Pull out with your finger nail and set a couple thousands deeper. Repeat till it drops in on the shoulder only. As you get real close you feel less and less resistance to extraction so back off adjustments to just 1 or 2 thou so you don't go over and miss touch. Might be a pain, but it is the most accurate way I've found.
.....and that is why they don't shoot BR.The few PRS guys I know rely on low ES/SD numbers and ballistic solutions over peak tuning, how a tuner relates to PRS is unclear to me.
I think there are some very talented PRS shooters that could easily transition to LR BR with a little more emphasis on the target, whereas BR shooters~ short or long range may struggle to do the same......and that is why they don't shoot BR.
do you also think that ES/SD and ballistic solutions only would make you competitive in BR?I think there are some very talented PRS shooters that could easily transition to LR BR with a little more emphasis on the target, whereas BR shooters~ short or long range may struggle to do the same.
I can completely understand the interest and participation in PRS as do manufactures and sponsors.
We are unfortunately not growing at the same rate as other disciplines.
Too bad really
Oh not at all , there has to be more emphasis on the target tuning but that’s easy enough to do.do you also think that ES/SD and ballistic solutions only would make you competitive in BR?
Alex said a mouthful. Learn to tune first.Op, you have got a lot of advice from different sides. What I reccomend when asked about tuners is to burn out 2 barrels without one first. Learn to tune. Then if you want to try one you have learned to tune first. Hopefully by then you can resist the urge to tuner tune the barrel. Unfortunately we dont have many short range group shooters posting here. The ones I know will never use the tuner to tune the barrel. They still adjust powder charge. Im in that camp. Theres a couple exceptions. What ever you decide, I can tell you that I have seen a lot of guys half ass a tune and try to bring it in with the tuner. They fix it for that day but it doesnt hold up. They struggle and burn out barrels chasing thier tail. Try as I might to explain this its become very obvious to me that its very hard for people to not try and cheat the tune with a tuner. In many cases I just have plead with them to try a barrel without one. When forced to tune they all of a sudden shoot better.
Absolutely not for benchrest or F Class.do you also think that ES/SD and ballistic solutions only would make you competitive in BR?
