Jamb and touch are not the same thing, correct? What’s your process to find touch?
Terminology is always a problem in these conversations. I find my max CBTO as I outlined above. It works great and provides me a solid reference dimension. I first did that when I started in benchrest. It came straight out of the Tony Boyer book, so I figured if it was good enough for Tony, then I should be okay too. For touch, I employ a couple different methods. I use the Wheeler method on any barreled action, but if it is a new barrel I find touch before I ever screw it on using a cool tool that Mike Ezell makes.
Either way, I consider my touch length and max CBTO length as nothing more than references that provide me good data points to use when playing with seating depth. Hope that helps.
