Lapua 308 Palma brass with LRPs???

Big surprise in the mail yesterday. I purchased some 'new unfired Lapua Palma' 308 brass off another site. They were bagged rather than boxed. I opened the bag to start weight sorting them and noticed they were quite a bit lighter than my other Palma brass. Started looking more closely and noticed the flash holes were larger. I thought the previous owner might have drilled them out. Had another cup of coffee and looked a little closer.. They have large rifle primer pockets!

These are not marked Lapua, just PALMA 308 WIN

Has anybody seen this before? Was it a SKU before? Maybe seconds? Possibly not Lapua?

Thanks

The Palma name is legally controlled by the US Palma Team. It doesn't just show up on stuff. Please post picture of the head stamp. I expect a few people will have info.

I suppose it's possible. Most of my Winchester brass weighs around 155-158grns.

My LC 77 Match is closer to 180grns.

Federal was also around 180 grns.

Most all of my Lapua 308 is between 168 and 173 grns.

A large sample of this brass weighs between 165-167grns.

Phil Hoham confirms that it's not Lapua. Possibly Winchester.

You can't trust anyone these days!

In the guy's defense, there was an old generic label on the package that said Lapua 308 and he most likely didn't know any better. He's selling a huge lot of reloading components for the estate.

There was an article in one of the 1992 editions of Handloader Magazine titled "Loading for Palma".

It described that they modified a Dillon 1050 to load .308, the special run of Winchester brass.

IIRC they loaded 4000,000 250,000 rounds manually because the ammunition was supplied.

I believe that I still have the article if I can find it.

I found the copy of the Handloader article, issue 152, July/August 1991 Written by Gary Sitton.

I won't attach it here for copyright reasons, but if you would like a copy, PM me your email address and I will send you a copy.

This is NOT LAPUA BRASS. .308 LAPUA PALMA BRASS ONLY COMES WITH A SMALL RIFLE PRIMER POCKET AND THE CASE HEAD HAS "LAPUA PALMA .308 WIN" ON IT.

We were able to buy the empties after the tryouts. I'll sell these for $10 a box and $5 shipping, or $35 for all, and I pay the shipping. For you collector types: notice the top one is marked differently!
