ALL MY ODCR CUSTOM BUILDS & LOAD WORK-UP

Wanted to kind of catch-up with the thread relating to the 25 X 47 matters. After carefully looking at everything my Buddy, SVT_Tactical and I have seen when going to 300 yd. targets with the 25 X 47 we realized even though we were seeing 5-shot gps. @ 100 yds. back to back drilling 1/4 inch and sometimes less. that we simply were not quite getting the accuracy for B R we were looking for at longer distances and not really understanding why. At this point we are moving back to the cartridges that we know well and have considerable experience in tuning. The 25 x 47 may very well work great for NRL or PRS and maybe some other categories but for now I suppose the 6mm will be our gig. My 6 X 47 is almost ready and I plan to continue this thread with all the loads & data that I work with. At some point in the future we may re-visit the 25 X 47 with a different barrel brand, twist, length, etc. Let me be very clear. There is no reflection or dis-satisfaction with O D C R period. Zack did the same great work on these rifles as he has always done and continues to do..

Bill -

Thanx again, for another of your timely & informative updates on that .25” calibre.

Bill, I'm starting to think that there is a sweet spot for any given calibre of bullet length, and how much you have to spin them to get the most out of the high BC. It's seems that rarely are the highest BC bullets the most precise. Maybe that's just the physics of it or perhaps we don't have tight enough tolerances to get those high BC, fast spinning bullets to perform? Very interesting results.

The 25x47 works plenty well for BR. I have numerous guys winning with it. Shawn Williams son shot 3 3" 10 shot groups in a row at the 1k IBS Nats with his which has NEVER been done with any cartridge. His are also shooting great. Thats 2 years in a row it won HG at the IBS Nats. It also shot the smallest 2 gun group agg at the world open. Could be many reasons why you may be struggling. Try different lots of bullets? Different reamer? They are quite picky about neck tension. More so than most. So if you didn't explore that, its worth a shot. But I also understand sticking with what has worked for you before as well.

The reason these two didn't work were the barrels. Both were CRB blanks. For whatever reason they just opened up at anything over 100. We tried 8 different powders, different primers and all the 130 class .257s available. And when we say opened up, we're talking 1/2-3/4 moa groups, nothing crazy but not enough for BR. ES and SDs were always low, single digit 5 shot groups.

Now the Lilja barrel i had spun using the same reamer.... it's on fire and certainly BR capable and has shown us what we wanted.

I'll get info posted on it ASAP.

I guess I’ll never understand exactly how it happens. I have wonder of it was me, conditions, load or barrel how a man can hammer in the 1s and 2s at 100yds but the groups go to pieces at distance.

I wonder if it's like a spinning top? As distance increases the spin rate drops and the "wobble" becomes more exaggerated and groups open up. Maybe...

Is the Lilja barrel that’s shooting a 1-7 twist?

Do you know what bullets they are using? I have a 25x47 in progress now

Oh yea, we tried testing everything as we normally do. We feel there was an issue with the barrels and our testing will certainly continue but with a different barrel manuf. Looks like SVT_Tactical is well on the way in that process. It is definitely something we both want to proceed with once we find barrels that show us we can continue with confidence. Stay tuned as the weather is not co-operating right now.

Definitely nothing wrong with the reamer. Too many guys are having great results with it.
