March vs NF

Can you expound on what was “off”? Was there insufficient adjustment to place the reticle on the scope’s focal plane?
ie: I will use the focus to find wind in focus at a specific distance setting down range with my HM cause it works the way it is supposed to. (I shoot in mountains) With my NXS if I were shooting at 100 I think I had to dial the focus/parallax to a setting for 350 yds ! same with the other 2 I had but dont remember specifics. Seems like for such a hyped up product you should not have to set parallax at a different range to be in focus at the range you are using. Just google NF+parallax problems!

Honestly I have not done a side by side comparison. I do think both seem very clear and are a step up from the glass in the GEs. I haven’t used the SVSSED for some time due to the weight.
I have both the SVSSed and the S6 (66012). The SV has the standard floating dot, while the S6 is MOA-BD reticle. The SV has slightly better glass overall, but my old eyes can't see much difference. The biggest advantage is being able to use 32" 1.25 inch diameter barrels with the S6, as opposed to having to use the the "Speedy profile" if you want to go with 32 barrel and the SV.
The SV is built like a tank with massive turrets. Both have well built mechanics, and both of the ones that I have were dead nuts on with the box test performed.
Cheers

None of my scopes, Swarofski, Leupold, Trijicon or NF are adjusted correctly at a given range based on marks on the parallax dial. None of the dials have precision marks anyway.. if it were to be precise I guess manufacturers would use a click system.
I have loaned scopes for 1000 Yard F-Class and each time I watch the user tinker with paralax ending in a different place than where I set it… go figure.

Especially corporate.!
I have a feeling - guess- that the exodus was over the scope body construction process. I wonder who else machines thicker walled scope bodies vs thinner and cheaper extruded-hydroforming. I read the NF Atacr is machined.

March believes the machining eliminates distortion, among other problems, as described in last 2 paragraphs.

true but there is a diff between having ie a 100 yd hash mark and fine focus will be a tad above or below that mark, vs focusing at 100 and the hash mark lines up at 300! This is not what I would expect on a 2k scope! My HM has precise marks and they are pretty much spot on

NF are made in Japan and serviced out of Idaho. I have a NXS 3.5-15x56 there now for a turret issue. I was quoted 6-8 weeks for them to get a chance to look at it. I sent it on 9/18/25, got the receipt email on 9/25/25. As of now, they haven't told me that they've inspected it (7 weeks+). I'm not in a hurry, nor complaining. Just stating facts and advising not to assume it will be quick just because it doesn't have to go overseas. I was told that they were busy, so this is taking longer than normal. I don't remember how long they've taken in the past.
Got the call yesterday. They confirmed that the elevation turret was “trashed”. They replaced it under warranty and did their battery of tests. It’s on its way back to me via UPS. All it cost me was shipping to Idaho and about 2 months. I still don’t know what happened, but am pleased with the service.

I think most people try to justify lower cost optics as being "just as good" when in reality they are "almost as good".
ALMOST as good, is a good way to put it.
many look fine out to 600 yards or so
Until you start stretching the legs of the higher priced scopes
Then details past 1200 yards start to reveal themselves and you appreciate the more costly glass much more
and the price doesn't hurt quite so much anymore.

If I may ask how did a turret get trashed. ?
Everyone comments how reliable N F is ( take them off use for a hammer put em back on keep shooting)
Best warranty is one never used. ( Straight from their warranty page ).

Not bad mouthing or running NF down. Never could justify the expense. It sounds like if it took 2 months to get it back, they are back logged with repairs. So that takes repir warranty out of the comparison list. Yes I have used Vortex warranty, never took that long to get it back, either repaired, or replaced.

I'm looking at one last rifle build, and putting more emphasis on the optic this time.

Still looking for someone that has "USED " a NF atacr7 x35-56. & a Vortex gen 3 7 X 36 -56.
(If I got the numbers correct.) Which one was better, & WHY 1000 yards & more.( Shooting steel)
Shooting only, not ranging distances .

Thinking about a transition to mil system this time. So far I like the N F Mil C reticle more than
the. VORTEX reticle.

Thank you to all, and to all A wonderful Thanksgiving.!

I wouldn't worry about the scope (as long as it's a reputable company)
worry about what reticle fits your needs.
Both are good scopes and no I haven't owned either one.
If I was looking at one or the other, I personally would go with the Nightforce 7-35 first.
If you are looking at FFP, don't discount the March FX ( they don't have as many reticle choses)

I don’t know how it got damaged. It hasn’t seen much hard duty. It had a tight spot. Say 270 degrees felt normal, 90 were a lot more difficult to turn. Get past the tight spot and normal again until the next lap. Same place each rotation. I assume it must have taken a hit at some point.

If you are looking to put emphasis on optic for one last build, the word Vortex shouldn't even be in the same paragraph IMO. I've never owned or test one, not a single Vortex that would track correctly. It would be the very last scope I'd eve consider putting on my gun, and its a shame because their warranty and service is some of the best in the business.

Thank You for your reply. Your opinions are welcomed.

To all a great day.!

Plenty of NF scopes in the herd, NX8,ATACR,BEAST and Competition 15-55. All have been quite nice to work with. Also a few Sightrons from the 45x fixed up to and including an S6 BR with lighted floating dot. Shot in the rain a few days ago and the S6 did it's job and made me a happy camper. Never even been close to a March so I guess that will be something for the future. S6 is mounted on 34mm ultra high NF rings on my .223 Uintah upper. Whatta Hobby!
