I am a wood working hack, but I love seeing the skilled folks work wood. Wife's grandfather was one of those. He learned from folks in the piano factory he worked at (he sharpened all the saw blades).

Dark green and black dye in a maple Stock wood look good with dark grey metal

Scrambled to get this one together for an NRL Hunter match on the 20th. It only has two sealer coats of oil, nothing sanded in. Ill have to make it pretty when I get back.

Nice work! I have the same machine. You should do some research on analine dies. They can make a maple stock pop. Here’s a couple I did in different colors:

Straight black between sanding at 180 & 220, then added dark red at 320 and 400.

Dark Red - Bright Red, Medium Brown, Black.

I use Transtint, which is an aniline dye.

Finish is 100% Tung Oil

Natural light shows the red... the dark shop doesn't help with pictures.

Another coat of oil soaking in to seal it.



*** for some reason when posting pictures they get darker on this site. On my phone its more vibrant red... odd.
