Official Gun Pix 'Pride & Joy' Thread

That's pretty nice. How did you finish the stock? Be as detailed as you have time for.
It started with a very diluted coat of black dye. Sanded that back and then a color called Ox Blood, which has a brown effect and sanded that back. Then four coats of burgundy dye, just a wipe down between coats and let it soak in. Then last but not least a heavy coat of red dye. The burgundy and red was not sanded back any, just wiped a lot with a clear neutral that blends it all together. Let the sit for a few days and went over it all with OOOO steel wool and then sealer. Blocked out the sealer and then the top coat of clear. The top coat goes on really really slick! Started blocking the top coat with 1500, 2000, 2500 and then buffing time. The dye used is Angelus brand leather dyes and the sealer and top coat is the Simtec system that @Bc'z turned us onto and if I ever get to Oregon or he gets to SC I owe him at least a dinner for!!!!

My favorite rifle in my safe:

Factory Remington 700 .308 Win. - not even bluprinted (yet). Began life as an ADL. Freed from the confines of its original plastic stock in favor of the MDT XRS. Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15 X 44mm MRAD. Atlas Bipod.

Another long project came to a close today! My new stock for my hunter Benchrest rifle. Our dear Lord did such a wonderful job on this wood, all I needed was to not screw it up and spray the clear coat. Stock is a combination of sap and heart wood, some ambrosia streaks and some curl. Action is a dual port Kodiak that when Kelbly’s cut the new right port, relabeled it as a panda, but it’s only 1.35” wide. Chambered in 30BR Brux and Bix n Andy trigger. 6X Burris HBR scope and Harrell’s rings.IMG_2109.jpegIMG_2113.jpegIMG_2114.jpegIMG_2116.jpegIMG_2121.jpegIMG_2124.jpeg

One fine rig for sure. How much does the stock weigh?

This is Win M-70 Classic switch barrel that can be taken down by hand without a vice and put back together by hand and will hold .50 inches. That was the actual test, to take it down switch barrels, shoot, Then take it down again, switch barrels and shoot .50 inches with each of two barrel with at least .500 inch groups. It is a 338 Win Mag / 7mm Rem Mag. Two barrel matching Japan scopes w tactical QC Warne bases and two sets of QC scope rings that return to zero when switched..
The barrel keeper, of my design, is a coil spring loaded tapered hardened plunger with a slotted keeper in the recoil lug, that fits into a tapered hole in the threads., and a spanner wrench with welded plug for the barrel hole which is visible in the upper barrel. Action is glass bedded with barrels free floated. Short barrel is the 338, long barrel is the 7mm. Fits into a double rifle case. The barrels and scopes can be switched sitting on a bed in a hotel room. I built it in my shop, to prove to myself that I could.

This is the first gun that could not be built, according to six different smiths, so I built two 357 Super Mag Martini Cadets. This is the first, the Big Leaf Maple stock version, the other is the walnut stock version. They make a thump with 200s or 180s out of a rifle with 296. Both have bushing and reduced diameter firing pins with new springs. The 180 grain spire points do over 2,500 fps.

Shot a deer with the top Cadet. Deer hit the ground and kicked once. Did not recover the bullet, the 357 SMs are impressive in a rifle.
