30-40 Krag build by Mel Johnson, after his retirement from the USMC. He opened a gun shop in Rhode Island.

Very nice photos. It would appear that this would have been a conversion of a Springfield Armory 30/40 Krag action with Springfield rear sight plus new custom stock with pad plus tapered barrel....I think you said 30:06?.....and blued components with new front sight...maybe Lyman?

It would have probably been a custoer's rifle conversion, done by my Dad's factory and not the subsequent "associates" group. Not sure of value but it would be pretty rare....call it perhaps a "one of a kind."

Went to a few ground hog shoots last summer and was invited to a 600 freedom shoot (member at the club lent me a gun and rests), needless to say I was hooked. I can’t wait for spring to get to shooting

It just struck me I've been too busy practicing with Team Cheap Bastard's new F-class rifle. A factory CZ-600 Range Plus in.308 with a Nightforce 'scope. Shoots as well as my old franken40X and the stock is far more comfortable. Looking forward to more practice and some weekend 1000 yard shoots this spring after it warms up.

I normally use a Protektor front rest - the bipod is an inexpensive substitute for a gun cleaning rest.

Another long project came to a close today! My new stock for my hunter Benchrest rifle. Our dear Lord did such a wonderful job on this wood, all I needed was to not screw it up and spray the clear coat. Stock is a combination of sap and heart wood, some ambrosia streaks and some curl. Action is a dual port Kodiak that when Kelbly’s cut the new right port, relabeled it as a panda, but it’s only 1.35” wide. This is not my rifle, but I am a sucker for beautiful wood. The rifle belongs to John Hoover, shown in the photos. I was shooting a 1000 yard match at the Western Pa 30 caliber League this weekend. John and his wife, Diane, are owners of the range and Accuracy One Shooting Supplies. John was cleaning this beauty next to me.

She's definitely beautiful, some more shots of the stock. Bedding and inleting was preformed by Alex Sitman a true master of his craft.

Don't know why I have not put my favorite rifle of all time in this thread but certainly have it in many other places on the forum. It is a piece of Master Class work done by the popular builder ODCR -Zack Donovant also known as WSMNUT here on the forum.

Very proud to say it was a contribution build by him with help from other great people here. My understanding is Lilja Barrels, SVT_Tactical and the Master Painter Bc"z played important parts in making it a reality back in August of 2025. As one might expect when SVT_Tactical and I went up to Zack's shop to pick it up I was floored and was not able to speak very much for a few mins. It was a very memorable event that I will never forget.

As usual Zack's builds never disappoint and this was no exception to that. I can honestly say his work has been outstanding to say the least with all the many builds that he has done for me and my circle of friends here. Cannot thank him enough for improving my shooting and handloading experience by producing rifles that not only shoot great but look great too. I always tell him it is impossible to handload for and shoot good groups from a rifle not capable of shooting it's best.

The rifle is built on top quality components and one can tell it was done with pride.
