I also would go with a 223. Bullets are easy to buy at a great price. I have a bolt gun with 1-7 twist because with a bolt gun you can shoot the longer heavier bullets and take advantage of them at longer ranges. Very accurate also. I guess you need to decide at what range you plan on shooting them the most. 1-8 twist for 69 gr. Sierra might be best all around choice for a range rifle. My choice is related to the wind, which for me, is always a relevant concern.

I set my friends up with one of my custom guns. If I have a kid along, they get a 22LR or a 223. If the kid has experience, they get a custom 223 I built. Newbies get a factory gun.
For “load at home” and given your experience level, you should build yourself a 6br. Find an accurate node in the middle of the load range, well below max, for casual shooting with friends.

Thanks, but I'm done with odd-ball 6s. I've had a 6PPC for 30 years and until very recently brass was impossible to find or sellers wanted $2+ per cartridge.
There will never be that problem with .223, and a persistent "load at home" shooter can find very credible accuracy~!!

Looking for a accurate caliber that I can load at home and head to the range. It will be pretty much a spare rifle to friends to go to the range with me and have a accurate rifle.
I currently shoot 6ppc is why I want a load and go rifle .

223 ISSF cheap long range project has begun. I loaded the first AR COMP 80 smk loads. I jammed them 8 thou from touch.

I made my wife, my friend and myself matching 7 twist 223 ISSF 169 fb barrels.

Might I suggest that you check out this thread and see the results. Now keep in mind, even to this day, I have yet to do a full load workup. This was simply just messing around with the family and friends.

We could easily get the parts together to do the entire build and you could just put it together yourself. I use the nut barrels for our play guns but a shouldered barrel could be done for a Kauger or similar action.

We could do a stock or a chassis.

There’s nothin wrong with a good 223. I was talking about the range brass lol.

I bought 500 new .223 Lapua cartridges. Very reasonable compared to the exotic caliber brass. Range brass ok too. Clean it, inspect it, process, and reload. Eezy-peezy~!!!
6PPC is just a PITA with all the work it takes messaging the brass to make it fit your custom chamber. Much better to use a cartridge with SAAMI specs~!

Given your purpose, I'd say 223. With a 7 twist and 75 - 80 bullets, mine is sub MOA at 600yds.
Cheap factory 55's also available.

I was going to say that since Alpha is making their great 6PPC brass, you could have gone with a no neck turn 6PPC, since you are already familiar with it.

Im staying fairly busy for sure. I was talking with a buddy yesterday and I haven't shot with the club since November.
The cool thing is I get to work on a lot of really cool builds for some really great folks.

He's getting dies brass and load data with it so he won't be having to gear up for a new cartridge.
