All the 1000 yard IBS Heavy gun Benchrest agg. records fall!

@tom, you learn where and how much weight works best
in what areas on this stock?
I myself didn't, but it works extremely well and @Roy H pretty much has lead wherever feasible? He could answer those questions. I only know it's heavy, and when I want to tip it over to change a trigger or whatever, the gun "wants" to right itself. Roy did in my opinion, the perfect heavy gun, as it's drivable despite being large and heavy.

Thanks, Tom

How much change did it take to keep your rifle in tune from shooting in the snow to summer temps?
From powder charge to seating depth. With out giving away your secrets. :)
I was just wondering how hard it is to keep a great shooting rifle at peak performance?

No change in powder charge, and I moved the seating 25 thousanths......no changes on seating from the standpoint of how far past touch, but just that it wore that much.

Thanks, Tom

Hal,
One thing I would say I have seen is that if you do the work to get the perfect tune it holds up very well. Now some powders are really sensitive, I'm not talking about that. But for the majority of powders we use in long range the tune really does hold well. I do really believe after experience with a lot of shooter in different disciplines that if your going out of tune, you never had it to begin with. Probably the #1 issue is your on the wrong powder. If the nodes moving all the time the first thing Id do is try another powder. But the whole tune needs to be right. And I mean the best primer, best powder, correct seating and charge, neck tension, all of it. Its a lot of work and you may burn through a barrel learning it all but the second one will be much easier if we stay on the same "program".

Thanks Tom I am a woodworker and love to read and look at stock making as it is taking place. I have a 12inch jointer and may use it in my stock making more than most. But I am always looking for new ideas. I did 2 hunting rifle stocks back years ago and inletted them with drills and chisels. A friend that I fixed a stock for decided I needed his milling machine and when I inletted my first stock and cut the barrel channel I put the chisels and drills away. Most guys I have worked with think I am crazy for cutting tapers on my jointer, I love doing them that way. My buddy George has me making blanks for his German ss daggers handles that he finishes on his hand made duplicator. We also built several Jap type 100 SMG stocks. I am retired so other than cutting the grass so the mini Aussie dogs don't get wet bellies, I pretty much get to do what I want. Shop is in such a state after the tornado that no work is getting done. Thanks

Did you see the FPS change much Tom from Winter to Summer temps with the same charge of powder?
Sherm,

Yes it has dropped back about 20 fps from that lovely day I drug it up the snowy stairs. The powder ladders haven't changed much, other than it will tolerate less now. I am going to bump it up for The Nationals, but in fairness I was keeping it very "safe" for the agg season. To quote @gunsandgunsmithing I'm done "doing my thing", so I will give it a bump for these last 3 targets that don't matter and see if she can shoot a small one. Then off to the bone pile and wait for Alex to get another reamer.....you know, because we want to try to beat it! Lol

This thread makes me wish I was younger and could get into 1000 yard Benchrest.
Jackie, I have had a lot of fun with it on my side. So much experimenting with equipment. Im a mechanic so thats the side of it I love. I wish there was some matches closer to you because I know you would enjoy it. Theres just something about shooting a small one at 1k.

There I said it.
