fitting the barrel is easier than taking it off if you are going to use a barrel nut just get some gauges and do it yourself
I’ve always used new FL sized brass
Simple once you’ve done it yourself

I've used a go gauge put scotch tape on the bottom and you have a no go gauge works fineI’ve always used new FL sized brass

It’s why I don’t like posting. There are exceptions to everything. It’s easier not to post than list every possibility. Not inside the action.
I've run into tight threads with a new barrel before cleaning the action threads up.
Same as what I have and they work great.I’ve taken off and installed a few savage barrels.
I used this action wrench:
And this barrel nut wrench:
That's funny you ask. I was going to post to get a price check on what the new barrels might sell for. One will be a new, un-shot 204R 12T and the other 223 9T. I have not bought the 223 yet, but plan to in the next couple days. Both will be re-fitted with Pac-Nor's, in 20VT 12T and 20P 11T.What caliber are the takeoffs and do you want to sell them?
No, all the ones I’ve done. Remington, well try a Mauser 98If they are installed anything like factory Remington barrels, due yourself a favor and cut a relief in the tenon just in front of the receiver and they will twist right off. Throw them in the trash and re-barrel
If the op is dealing with a savage with a barrel nut they’re relatively easy to loosen the nut, then the barrel unscrews by hand.If they are installed anything like factory Remington barrels, due yourself a favor and cut a relief in the tenon just in front of the receiver and they will twist right off. Yep. pinching pennies and simpler to ship!!Mike why not let pac nor remove the barrels? They will ship you back the one that came off.
Is it just trying to save money on shipping?
I used a pool noodle split down the middle and slid the action in middle of it. Same way I plan on doing it again

Never claimed it was rocket surgery as you call it. I just haven't ever done it and with all the input posted I'll take my mechanically inclined abilities and do it myself. The only reason being, I do not want to ship two complete rifles if I don't have to. Shipping two actions is much easier and more cost effective. Who knows, I might need the tools later down the road or lend some out to someone in need.Taking a barrel off a Savage and installing another barrel isn’t rocket surgery.
Vise holds the action in an action wrench, barrel nut wrench, 3/4” breaker bar, torque wrench, go gauge, scotch tape.
If there’s anything difficult it’s disassembling the Savage bolt. The BAS, need a big Allen wrench; ejector- need a drift pin; and don’t turn either end of the firing pin assembly unless you know what they do.

I have a Savage Action Wrench and a barrel nut wrench used once. Both were purchased from NSS. PM me if you are interested in buying.Okay, I know it's supposedly easy, but I have never done it. I'm planning to remove barrels and triggers from two Savage Model 12's and want to hear from you who have done this. I'll be ordering the tools from James from NSS asap to get the job done.
