Magazine Removal

I have a Savage model 12 that I want to restock but can't figure out to remove the blind magazine that is attached to the action I see no screws I really don't want to damage it. Any one have an idea? Unlike the Remington it seem to be put in so it stays with the action. I have a new stock and bottom magazine I could try to muscle it out but I figured I would ask first

Thanks in advance

Insert a small thin screwdriver between the tab and box. That will free-up the tab and allow you to pull-out the box. Don't pry-up on the tab. You'll bend it.

What JRS said . . .

Sometimes a rap with a soft-faced hammer will help free things up (while the screwdriver blade is inserted).

If Savage calls it spring steel then it is the softest spring steel I have ever seen. I just tap them out with a dead blow and prying slightly does help.

I don,t want to get into a pissing contest with you sir. But that is what Savage rep. told me.. Tommy Mc.

I place a large blade screwdriver on the junction of the receiver and the rear of the mag box and hit the screwdriver with a good whack with a hammer. That will usually pop it free. Same procedure to put it back. Tab will pop back in.

Savage mags will bend and warp when twisted. Been to that rodeo.

I take mine off with a screwdriver, and replace the same way. Works every time, some a little more stubborn then others.
