Athlon Rangecraft Compact Chrono Tested

Tried several more times, no luck. I manually noted the data from today’s sessions and then deleted today’s records. Immediately the data connected and synchronized.

Data must have got stepped on during the firmware upgrade. I’ll keep an eye on this for a bit to see if it truly is corrected.

The higher velocity reading vs other chronographs seems to be common feedback on the Athlon chrono.
Sounds like a chronograph that I’m glad I don’t own. First thing I did when I bought my Garmin is to shoot it up against the LR and an older Caldwell unit. All three read within 4fps, that is on the shots the LR or Caldwell didn’t miss. lol. I fired 126 rounds testing on Saturday and the Garmin didn’t miss a single shot. Flawless. And it does it in a package small enough to fit in my pocket.

I am in no way agreeing nor disagreeing with your statement.
I am curious, as I am sure others may be, what did you see to come to your conclusion.

We conducted this test out of curiosity and to further discussion.
Maybe I missed something but it appears on paper it's more accurate than all of them?less variation in velocity.they all looked good enough though

I don't know what did it tell you I'm not seeing?

I don't think this is quite as bad as looking for a flat spot in a node.we all see something different in that situation sometimes.lol

This looks pretty cut and dry on accuracy to me and a clear winner.now on the updates etc I guess we'll see.probably same as Garmin early on

None of that showed in this test that I can see?

Re-read my comment....
I am not questioning your conclusion.
Just trying to spur some discussion that may help others.

It's not possible to say one chronograph is more accurate than the other in these tests. We have no measurement standard to assess accuracy of the test articles. How close are the numbers to the true velocity? We don't know. All we can do is compare one chronograph against the other. We can compare velocity differences and consistency, but not accuracy. The closest to a gold standard we had was the Oehler. But, but.... We don't know its accuracy relative to true velocity. Comparative measurement is all we can achieve.

Got it this past weekend and played around with it on the range yesterday. After my shooting session, I told myself why I never got a garmin years ago. I always told myself my magneto has always worked for me for years and always resisted the urge. Since I had money burning a hole in my pocket I decided to finally buy the Rangecraft.

The rangecraft read every shot with no problems but I did notice one thing. Comparing the shooting session to my magneto and another shooter's Garmin, the rangecraft was consistently 30 fps higher. The Magneto's and the Garmin's velocities were almost exact. Not sure if that's good or bad thing for the rangecraft but at least it was consistent.

Has anyone ever used the rangecraft in the dark? With the heat here in south NM, day time shooting sessions are only available in the early mornings and I'm not a morning person. I really like going out to the shooting range late at night when there is no one on the range.
Whoever wrote the android ballistics app does not have a clue about using a ballisics app! Its absolutly useless. Syncing the chronograph to my phone is clunky.
