Australia vs. Texas Fly matches

This happened a number of years ago but it still brings back good memories.

Throwback to Sept 2018, pics from my phone at the Texas vs Australia match . The good times with friends and the time I shot next to Arnold Jewell. He reminded me of my late grandfather, wouldn't wear his dentures and lit his smokes with a zippo. Rest in peace boys.Screenshot_20250618-220432.png

How about a link to purchase some targets.....

Regards
Rick
Mike Cockcroft custom ordered the targets after paying for design artwork up front and ordering in quantity of 1000. So it was not a casual effort and they are not easily available. Next nearest source of course would be Australia. Mike might have some available if someone really wanted them.

Thanks, Joe
Not really that important I guess. My Redneck fly shooting consists of dropping jelly on a target at 100yds when I am playing at the range and splatting any curious bug that happens along.......Happy Shooting

Best Regards
Rick

We sure had some good fun at the Fly Shoots and lots of complaining about not seeing bullet holes.
Reminiscing about Stick ( Don Starks) and Arnold Jewell at the matches. Those two could dish out some shit but they could take whatever you threw back at them with a smile on their face. The good old days for sure.

We had some tough competitors too. Short range, clay bird shooters and F class were all represented.
One of my favorite pictures. Arnold telling Speedy how the cow at the cabbage. Second picture Johnny Ingram spotting for Omar Alonzo. They were a formidable team and great guys to be around.

Mike , thank you for hosting the series. Ya man , I had no idea who Mr Jewell was till I sent Stick a pic of the scores. Stick replied back to tell Arnie hi for him . I was like Arnie who , Stick says the man who built your trigger . Then it dawned on me . My elevator doesn't go to the top floor sometimes. Any way , good times for sure , thanks Mike .

I remember them. I never went to one but the talk was very positive. All I talked to had a great time.
I do regret not going to one.

I never made one unfortunately but have shot wit Mr Jewels and Stick many times. In my opinion two of the greats and most fun to shoot with. I do miss them both, they brought a lot to the sport.

Seeing and remembering this really makes me wonder about Orangeburg. Pine Valley veterans say it's horrible there at the Tack Driver. Can it really be that much worse?
I have shot at a number of ranges where you occasionally cannot see thru the mirage. Orangeburg and Pine Valley are two of them. One difference is Orangeburg is also surrounded with trees close to the sides causing un expected rapid wind changes. At the same time as you cant see thru the mirage. So total guesswork.
