When I was a young man, I bought two wooden cases of WWII black tip armor piercing ammunition in 8 round clips and cloth bandoleers, an M1 Garand, and a Remington 03A3 that had been lightly sporterized. They would penetrate more at 100+yds than it would at 50. I later read that at distance, the bullet had slowed enough to be more stable on impact. I believe that to be true based on what I saw.
However, I found one thing that it wouldn't scratch - a piece of railroad iron. I shot it in the web and it simply made a grey splash without even putting a dent in it.
