Home Defense

When I was in high school, a buddy of mine got commode-huggin' drunk one night and his old man had the house locked up. The guy tried to get into his own house by climbing through a window. He made it about half way and then fell the rest of the way making a horrible mess and a lot of breaking-glass noise. If his dad had been waiting with a gun, he might have shot his own son. Not sure what this all means but it's something to think about.
I had an experience like that when I lived in PA. Wife wakes me and said someone is in the house. I heard sounds like they were coming up the stairs, so I grabbed my .45 and went to our open door and waited until they just got to the top step. Snapped the lights on and had the gun pointed at my daughter's boyfriend. He fell back down the steps and I went down and helped him up. He was a little under the weather and thought stopping at 2:30 am was a good idea. I drove him home and gave him to his father. Whom thanked me for not shooting him. Had I not used a light for ID I would have had a really bad situation. He and I are still friends, thank GOD. Jeff

Exactly, however you still need a light source to follow up for the 2nd or 3rd asshole!
Light source. Well one thing to keep in mind is at night, in your bedroom, pitch black, your second shot if needed, you’re going to be blinded by the muzzle flash.
Not having shot anyone in my bedroom (yet) I decided to one night to go in my shed, and fire at a target I set up 10 feet away. Quite surprised at the flash and the inability to get a second shot off right away as I couldn’t pick the target up. The noise was impressive also firing inside the shed, so I’d say that second shot is going to be tricky and I’ll say you’re not going to hear a noise to shoot at.

Probably not a popular option on this forum but you might consider getting a very big dog if you are concerned about "home defense
Not sure why it would not be a popular option on this forum, but then again I see things differently than most.
I posted a picture of my two mastiffs and they are going to get someone long before I get my firearm. Both crush golf balls with their molars so the cleanup afterwards will be a garden hose.
I rely on them as they hear, smell, and are faster than me.

Damn lucky kid!

Shotgun. One and done. Pistol training takes time. Lots of time. Most don't have that kind of time these days. Shooting a shotgun and training
I have Crimson Trace laser saddles on my 12 gauge Mossburg 500 & Remington 870.
The 20 ga. 870 has a Trijicon red dot

(I cannot seem get rid of that picture copied and pasted from another site that was in my browser )

It's hell on hallway walls but sure gets it done if needed. Push, point and pull. In my case, put the red laser where you want the load to go and make the phone call for the meat wagon.
8 shots = bad news on the receiving end. Enough said.

I have never understood the idea of using a flashlight at night in my house if intruder is here. Seems to me it tells bad guy where you are. in middle of night my night vision is pretty good. Poster above was fortunate not to kill his daughter's BF. I don't know what the solution is. flashlight is probably a good idea, but it sure gives your location away. I guess I could hold it out to the side or something. My GF and I have a plan if intruder is in the house at night, or anytime for that matter, main question is,,,, will she follow the plan?

I like to keep one of these at each entrance to my house
I almost forget about keeping a gun nearby when I sleep.
