A story about ammo and no justice with out deep pockets!

Ever been to civil court? You can have a contract and the other side's lawyers can pull in about fifty reasons why that contract wasn't legal and bring in expert witnesses to prove their case. Its all about framing the case in a way which a judge and/or jury find the argument more compelling than its rebuttal.

I can assure you, if you think "the right thing" comes from litigation or even the legal thing, you're sorely mistaken. There is a reason for the adage, "you can have all the justice you can afford". My father was awarded by jury the largest settlement our county had ever awarded, but lawyers got it thrown out because of a typo in which two numbers on a legal description were inverted (though provided correctly elsewhere in the document).

Contracts don't mean squat unless you have two parties willing to honor it.
Exactly correct.

What got lost in the weeds was that the whole reason for the video was to support someone else who was recently wronged by Hornady. Basically a “if you don’t believe they would that to someone, here’s what they did to me.”

The intended message of the video, that Hornady apparently blackballed or possibly tried to ruin a reputation over a refused endorsement got lost in a look at me moment.

Yes, that’s correct, he is commenting on Field Ethos no longer being sponsored by Hornady. Field Ethos declined to endorse a new cartridge of theirs and lost the sponsorship.

He says Field Ethos cannot be bought and suggests this pulling of a sponsorship is an example of Hornady being a bully. That leads into his long court case account.

I’m just not on his page at all, I’m sorry. Any amount of sponsorship should result in gratitude by the recipient. This recipient, he says, is predominantly Don Trump, Jr.’s, going concern anyway, whose stand alone net worth is estimated at 350M, and he’ll inherit multiples of this. That’s five years of total revenue, not profits, but revenue of Hornady, by what I saw online.

Who’s the small guy here? Field Ethos declines to say something positive about its sponsor’s new product so now that subsidy is cutoff, which makes Hornady a bully?

Hornady doesn’t give me a nickel, (quite the opposite) is that bullying me?

Not my point at all. All I’m pointing out is that most of this thread is off topic. But so was the video.

My opinion is the real real jackass in all of this is Linebaugh. He sold his name to get the product produced, then when it had some popularity, sold the product that basically wasn’t not his to sell. If the product was still linebaugh’s, there would be no need to reverse engineer.

Thinking you can protect a product with a trademark as Big Bore found out, isn’t much protection at all.

The real story here isn’t that big business squashed the little guy, happens all the time. Right or wrong. Or that a sponsorship was canceled, due to failing to carry the companies water for a product you don’t believe in. Or you embarrassed the brand. Welcome to the corporate world.

The real part of the story is that a large company namesake decided he wanted something and didn’t mind pitting friends against each other to get it. All within a relatively small community. Apparently, not the only time it’s happened.

Did they used to sponsor you? Are they demanding you endorse a product you haven't used?

I am more of a donor than a donee, for my charitable causes. Commercial sponsorships are different, Hornady is a for profit company and I assume Field Ethos is as well, but however it is set up, it was in a position to endorse or promote a certain rifle cartidge.

This is not an exaggeration, but I’m likely the largest customer for the A-Tip match bullets anywhere, and I have had no idea who they have ever sponsored, nor did that outlay of money in sponsorships prompt me to buy one additional bullet.

But whether I think Field Ethos, as compared to say youth shooting education 501(c)(3) charitable organizations deserves “sponsorship” or not, Hornady has a right to seek to get some measure of a benefit from an entity they elect to sponsor.

Friends of mine and l stopped by Hornadys in Grand lsle Neb about 10 yrs ago. We had been shooting Prairie Dogs on the RoseDud rez on the Neb/SD border. We got to meet Steve and tour the bullet making plant. The ammo plant is in another area and off limits. Most fascinating was taking the big cylinder of lead and squirting out the bullet cores. l am NOT a competition shooter. l can't afford Sierras for blasting pdogs. VMAX is my ''poor man's bullet''. l visited Noslers in Bend Or 25 yrs ago on John Sr 90th bday. Both make great bullets. My wallet prefers the ones with RED tips!

Appears you are not likely not the target of the said ad campaign that is Hornady's sponsorships. As you pointed out, Hornady has a right to seek benefit from a sponsorship. That said, you didn't address the point I made.

The reality of the situation is Hornady wants to buy an endorsement, but make it appear to be a sponsorship. Just as you pointed out, Hornady has a right to benefit from sponsorships, Mr. Sundles has the right to tell his story.

He is a total whining wuzz and his persona sure don't match the name 'Buffalo Bore'. If this guy had instead decided to get into major league, he would be the one crying 'spitball' to the umpire. If someone screws with your biz then screw 'em back x2, with lawyers or by making a better product. That's the way the 'winners' come out on top in the real world, business or politics. Oh and here he is whining at us from his 'Africa office' where he has been for 2 months. Poor thing, he thought that when he started nipping into the top producer's biz that they would 'welcome him into the brotherhood' and not kick him in the nuts. lol.

Example of sponsorship.
The company I worked for had some "TV Hunters" sponsored. The most popular of them naturally got sponsorships from other gun and archery companies as well. No problem. There was plenty of room there inner view because we didn't sell scents, clothing or archery. Then the problem. While WE paid them an extremely more generous sponsorship fee than all those others combined our product was showing up less and less. We went from getting views 46 weeks a year to 4 on a 52 week airtime schedule. Then they were shocked when we pulled that big dollar contract.
In the end, after some market analysis, we pulled all those hunters contracts because that research showed we were not getting ROI for even a break even deal.
Corporations don't sponsor by just handing someone their product and saying "talk it up". We paid large sums of money along with products.
Our company used a lot of Hornady ammo. Here's the shocker. WE PAID FOR IT!!!

Did the contract for sponsorship specify how frequently your products would be featured on the television show?

Here is the thing that makes all of this just a starting point. We get to decide if we want to support Hornaday or not! At one time I was in love with the 6.5mm 140 Amax. It is long gone and replaced with something that cost over twice as much. I don't know if it is the one many are saying goes POOF half way to the target or not. I do know that there were accusations about another 140 grain 6.5 bullet and they addressed the accusations much better. They shot thousands of bullets and wore out a bunch of barrels so they would know what was up. Choose wisely.

Hornady's advertising is genius..
there bullets not so much.
2 different calibers of hornady hunting bullets have failed me.
2 different weights of their 22 cal target/varmint bullets failed me.
I'll never shoot another hornady rifle bullet.

I love Hornady bullets for foulers and case forming. They work great!

Here is an interesting tidbit on Mr Buffalo Bore. Maybe Steve Hornady loves his huntin' dogs, or didn't consider someone who had been a Portland oregon roofer all his life before starting a cottage ammo company as a candidate for 'the brotherhood'.

Trail of tainted meatballs. Timothy B. Sundles, a 48-year-old ammunition manufacturer who lives in Montana, tried to kill wolves by leaving poisoned meatballs in Salmon National Forest in 2004, according to federal prosecutors. It’s not clear whether Sundles is also the wacko who left poison-laced hot dogs around trailheads in northwest Wyoming in 2004. No one knows whether any wolves died, but the bait killed at least seven dogs, as well as coyotes, foxes and magpies. Wildlife agents targeted Sundles because he’d published a Web site article titled “How to Successfully Poison Wolves.” He signed a plea agreement Nov. 29, copping to a misdemeanor charge of trying to kill a protected species, and avoiding the maximum penalty of six months in prison and a $25,000 fine. When he’s sentenced on March 1 in federal court in Pocatello, prosecutors will ask that Sundles spend 30 days in jail, be banned from public lands for two years, and pay veterinary bills of $128.90 for treatment of the dogs.
