@jackieschmidt ? I wonder about the future of the battery capacity if it's only drawn down part way? I thought a full drawn down cycle was best for "full capacity" recharge? Maybe only a partial draw will cause it (the battery) to find a memory??

I believe that applied to Nickel Cadmium batteries. The current batteries have different recommendations.

I find it interesting that not long ago, EVs were being promoted as the environmentally friendly choice.
Now they're being destroyed because a change in the political climate has made the 'environmentally conscious' despise the company. Destroying property isn't particularly good for the environment.
Pick a side. Environmental? Political? Deciding on a daily basis?

I have no problem with disagreement. I do have a problem with hypocrisy.

And that is the bottom line. Musk was one of the gods of the left prior to his purchase of Twitter. Now the very products they advocated for (Tesla products that is) and the leader in the market is the enemy. Hypocrisy is perhaps far to kind of a description for the current behavior. A friend of mine who is religious said he thinks god pulled a veil over their eye's and they can no longer see the truth. My retort as someone who is not religious was that god simply shorted them on brains.

I have not been a fan of electric vehicles in the past. Partially due to the sanctimonious (and now duplicitous) nature of the advocates but also because I thought that they are putting the cart before the horse. In government coercing people to buy them at some local, state and at the federal level when we don't have the infrastructure or electrical generation capacity to support the dictates of the Biden administration. My feeling has been that those who advocated the most lived in areas with the highest kilowatt per hour prices and the least ability to produce the energy they consume. If they wanted to flush their money down the toilet, it only means cheaper gas for me so I actually encouraged EV ownership.

Now my view is changing. Given that the duplicitous nature of the left is as clear as it has ever been, I'm thinking that as they trade their Teslas for Lincoln Navigators I might be able to pick up one of their discarded Teslas sedans cheap for a run around town car. If I find one I'll add the obligatory Trump, Vance and Musk stickers. I'd really like to buy a Tesla truck but it's out of my price range.

I'd still never buy one unless and until I see it as a viable technology capable of standing on it's own without Government subsidies and the problem of the batteries is addressed.
Fires. Disposal. Replacement costs. Electricity generation and distribution.
Is the Trump administration turning a blind eye towards that?
I'll be watching.
Make no mistake. I'll call out hypocrisy wherever I see it.

They have way to many issues to be even close to being as economical as a ICE vehicle. That said my brother has a 2nd gen Camaro with a 454 engine that is making decent horse power. He told me he went to lunch with the relator that was selling his house, and her Tesla's acceleration was way harder and faster than the Camaro. I wanted to cry.

BYD’s stock jumped 4 per cent to HK$401.40 ($51.66) in Hong Kong, taking its gain to 85 per cent over the past 12 months.

Wang, the company’s billionaire founder, said on Monday the Shenzhen group’s new charging system for BYD’s own EV batteries could add around 470km in range in five minutes.

The claim implies that BYD has nudged ahead of rivals such as Tesla and Mercedes-Benz in fast-charging technology, although the new system is contingent on several prerequisites, including sufficient voltage at charging stations.

There is rising competition among EV and battery makers to deploy faster charging infrastructure, in part to help deal with anxiety among consumers over the driving range and charging speed of EVs compared with traditional internal combustion engine cars. BYD initially plans to install around 4,000 chargers to support the new fast-charging technology.

China is expected to put in about 460,000 new public EV chargers this year, accounting for about two-thirds globally, and taking cumulative units to about 2.1mn, according to Chris Liu, a Shanghai-based senior analyst at the consultancy Omdia.

BYD added that two of its popular sports utility models, both priced under $40,000 in China, would be equipped with the new ultrafast charging system from April.

Doesn't China bring a new coal fired power plant on line daily? So their EV's are really coal burners. When the USA upgrades their grid and the price of EV goes below ICE and the subsides disappear, I'll get interested in a EV. I understand BMW ditched their EV program and are into nitrogen now?????

Yes. They should be fully charged prior to use. Even they have a ‘memory’ as to what is ‘fully’ charged. Actually a new lead acid battery for your car should be placed on a charger to fully charge it prior to use.
Li-ion batteries are different. Almost every one manufactured to will ‘shut off’ when it reaches 20% remaining.
They do this as they fail if run to 0%. Meaning they will not recharge. Even the cheap li-ion batteries in a flashlight stop working at a 20% remaining charge. That is why they don’t go dimmer. They just shut down.

I have seen pictures of Chinese unsold EVs in lots so big that the pictures were taken from a satellite. I sure hope they are leaving us in the dust on EVs. They are making so much on their EVs that instead of fueling their rockets with some super rocket fuel they are using water. Maybe they can put some band aids on the worlds largest dam, that is almost new and leaking and some say in danger of collapse.

I think the problem is that he has been criticizing EV cars for years, right up until his biggest financial backer put several TESLAS on the White House front lawn and the president gave a sales pitch, with notes, for THOSE cars.
