Is there a fur friendly 6 mm?

I’ll echo what a couple have already suggested which would be 6x45. Problem with the 6 creed is unless you load it down your gonna get velocities that aren’t fur friendly, the lighter bullets will help but if you ohit a bone at typical 6 creed speeds your chances of making mess go way up. If it’s 300 and in the 6 ARC isn’t a bad choice either but the little 6x45 does a great job at those ranges. Super easy to load for. Mine is built on a Remington 788, it shoots very small and recoil isn’t worth mentioning, I can spot most impacts. It’s a neat cartridge.

There are 20 calibers that will dispatch with authority and rarely make a mess, just another good option for what your wanting to do.

Are you set on a 6mm cartridge? Or open to other choices? If this is a free custom build and you are going to start reloading now would be a good time to build a nice fun gun. Based off the 2 you mentioned i might pick 6arc. Less powder and recoil than 6 creed. I have used a 6 creed on a few coyotes with a 108 eldm at 2,920fps. Blows a wicked exit hole and none of them were drt. All required a follow up shot. Id go light bullets in ether of them. I do have a 6x45 and using 58gr vmax. Just have not shot a coyote with it yet. I built a 20 practical and enjoy it more. Barly has recoil. 6x45 is also soft but 20 is softer. Realy open your choices if you will be handloading.

Op's task at hand is valid & if another option is up to the task perhaps even better, then no reason not to entertain other options IMHO. Trouble today, is I do not know where a guy would source proper 17 cal projectiles for the task at hand.
Blaine, at Blackhole Bullets still makes a 30gr HP that works great on coyotes out of the bigger 17’s.

Just build a 6mm BR. 12 or 13.5 twist, 68 grain Bart’s avengers. 70 varmageddon if you want a factory bullet.

Stone dead at impact, no holes.
22”-24” barrel. What will a br zip those weight bullets ? I have a decent stack of 75 vmax and 70varmageddons

All of mine are 20.5” and I’ve had the 68s at a fairly mild 3350 for the last several years. N135.

I’m absolutely open to other options. The gunsmith seemed partial to 6mm so we discussed those a bunch. But I really like the 17rem and 204 as well
17's are somewhat hard to find barrels and bullets. For the distance that you will be shooting id go with a 20 caliber cartridge. I do love my 204 and 20p. Speed wise they are are close. 204 with a 35gr berger is 3,880. 20p woth a 40gr vmax is 3,720. We have small bodied coyotes where im from and these wack them hard.

This is at least the 4th site in the last couple of weeks you've asked the same question.

In your current situation, skip the 17 & 20's and built a 22-250.

Lotsa factory ammo available till you get set up to load.

When geared to load, go with Berger 52 Match bullets & start stacking fur.

Fast, flat, & great for performance on hides.

I have had very few exits using a 22/250 highly recommended

if you’re bored enough to recognize posts across several forums, you need a hobby. I’ve posted it in a lot more than 4 places too… when I get an opportunity at a free rifle, I asked questions to as many people as possible
FYI, most all peruse the same sites, so fat chance of finding something new under the sun.

What you will find is folks recommendations aren't all based on experience.

I know a guy that shot 552 coyotes last year, & over 400 this year, most all at night.

He shoots a bolt gun in 22-250 with 52 Bergers.

I prefer an AR for night time, so my cartridge of choice is a 22 DTI shooting the 52 Bergers at 3550.
