Calling all 20 cals...Let's see your wildcats!

Very nice set up. I have wanted to do one of these but just haven’t had the time. Got a bunch of winchester bee brass calling my name. What dies do use?
I had Redding make me a full length bushing die. Then had my gunsmith make me a neck die and seater with Wilson die blanks. I’ve had the best luck with the Winchester Bee brass Hornady not so much.

So funny story!! I had two buddies that brought me along. They took a break to cool their rifles. I didn’t realize that they were standing behind me observing. I really enjoy the fact that I can enjoy the acrobatics in my scope. But I didn’t see any on one shot and felt real good about the shot. I looked up very disappointed thinking that I missed. They both had their jaws wide open. When I said that I thought I missed. They both just shook their heads and said nope just a cloud that you didn’t see. There reaction was priceless speed kills!!!

Only wildcat I own is a 20tac. Super nice gentlemen heard me talking about re barreling my cz in 204R. He informed me he had a 20 Tac for sale. Savage ledt side single feed action in a McMillan stock. 30” barrel a couple hundred loaded rounds and several hundred projectiles including 40-55 burgers and about 2-300 virgin pieces of Dakota brass. Couple days later he told me he forgot to give an extra barrel he had for it and copy of Todd’s 20s books. I Honestly told the gentlemen that it was worth lot more then what he was asking for it and didn’t want to take advantage of him. He was happy he found someone who knew what it was and was happy it was going to good home.
I had my shon shoot it and but he’s still learning about scopes (uses iron sights for right now”

Let's see what the peanut gallery says......

Building, yet another, PDog gun for my June trip
Just got my .204, 12 twist barrel. I was thinking either 20 practical or .204 Ruger.
Barrel will be spun onto a Bat 3L.
Talk me into this or into something else....... Looking to shoot 40gn ers.

My only stipulation is that I want to buy a resize die, nothing custom..
Go!

For 40g I highly recommend going with a 11 twist barrel and with overly little freebie . My cz Kevlar in 204 had a 12 twist and I could not get the 40s to shoot so I had pac nor put a 11 twist super match barrel on it and shooting much better already during break in period

The Sako is a 20 Duster for calling coyotes and the Remington is a 20AR with a 13 twist that shoots the Berger 40 very well. I have to turn necks for both, Greg Tannel talked me into that facet of reloading. Today I would build no turn necks.

would it shoot 36s ?

Matt a 13 twist with 40's? Miss print?
No sir, back then it was all that was available. The 40 Berger is relatively short and works well for this rifle and on coyotes.
The 40 VMax is absolutely too long and will not work.I was at high altitude too in Colorado and shooting them pretty fast. When it's time I will definitely get an eleven for this rifle. This rifle shoots incredible well but to look at the bore you'd never know it.Bore scopes are very helpful but sometimes I think many a barrel have been chunked too early because of them.
For those that are curious the 20 AR is the idea of Greg Tannel a .030" longer body length 20 Tactical this was conceived to make loading on his Dillon easier. I used the 33 VMax back then and let me tell you it clobbered rock chucks, coyotes and crows in the high country. In essence it performs like a well built .204.
20 calibers have come a long way in 25 years, hoping they keep going with more bullet choices in the future.

I decided to get into .20 caliber for PD shooting after shooting a buddy's .20BR on our 2008 trip to S.D. I wanted to match its performance using 30-30 case and Ruger No.1. I had been shooting a No. 3 in .219 Wasp for several years so I just necked it down and shortened the neck. I was very pleased with the results on our 2009 shoot. I was fire forming cases with 40gr V-Max at 4040 fps. Several hits at 500+ and two hits at 634 yds. The barrel is a Krieger 11" twist. A couple years later I had my No.3 .219 Wasp rebarreled to .204 Wasp with a PacNor 11" twist. Both barrels shot best with 39gr Sierras and 31.0 gr of N140 or Varget. When the 32gr Zombies by Hornady were available for about 10 cents apiece I had to try them. A mild load of 30.0 gr of Varget at a little over 4000 fps worked great out to about 400yds. Not benchrest accurate but plenty good for PD's and coyotes.

This day and time i wouldn't put a 12 twist on any 20 cal when there's so many 11 out there
1000% agree. Minimum 11 twist or faster if shooting higher then 40g
1001% agree with both of you!

MAYBE, if all I ever wanted to shoot were the 32's or Berger 35's I guess a 12tw would be ok but IMO the 12tw limits your options and well I really like having options available to me. Even if I'm fairly certain I won't need them they're nice to have.

I'd still like to see Sierra sell those 36gr BK's bullets they put in their factory 204 Ruger ammo as a component item. They could be a fun bullet in the smaller cases like the 20-221, 20VT, and even 20-222.

Agreed. I use 32 gr. in the VT and 39 for the .204. Sure would like to buy the 36 BK for the .20-222. There are others in that wt. range but not with same BC.

REALLY like the looks of that Wasp case! Outstanding performance to go with it. Thanks for sharing.
